Lyrics
On and on, these boring thoughts are not that hard, not that hard On and on, these boring thoughts are not that hard, not that hard to make disappear Take all your pills and divide them by color and size Take all your problems, disguise them with everything nice Billy ran away, now he's eating lemon crackers in bed And if you want to stay, would you feed him rice pudding instead? Nobody wants to harm you when you're outside But it's hard to believe when everyone's telling lies Somebody knows that you're just not laughing You're not laughing Take all your pills and divide them by color and size Take all your problems and size them, everything nice Billy ran away, now he's eating some crackers in bed If you want to stay, would you feed him rice pudding instead? Nobody wants to harm you when you're outside But it's hard to believe when everyone's telling lies Somebody knows that you're just not laughing You're not laughing On and on, these boring thoughts are not that hard, not that hard On and on, these boring thoughts are not that hard, not that hard Nobody wants to harm you when you're outside But it's hard to believe when everyone's telling lies Somebody knows that you're just not laughing You're not laughing You're not laughing You're not laughing

Song Notes

I've spent the last month or so diving into mountains of vintage DAT tapes from recording sessions dating from 1993-2001. It has been an interesting experience that has highlighted, to me, some of the ways that our (my) listening habits have changed over the years. For the uninitiated, a DAT tape is a digital audio tape that varies in length and can be as long as 120 minutes. It is very difficult to fast forward or skip songs especially with tapes that have not been played for 10 - 20 years.

I have patiently listened to writing sessions, days of pre-production and alternate versions of songs that I haven't heard for quite some time. It was during an especially long and painful writing session tape from the Clumsy era that I found a little gem of a demo called "Immune".

Raine had a tendency to sneak into the studio after hours to record ideas with our engineer Terry, but this one almost sounds like his original 4 track home recording. "Immune", as we know, did not make Clumsy but instead became "Consequence Of Laughing" on the Happiness record. Sometimes the finished song strays too far from the initial idea. There is something very special about this demo and I'm very happy that I made it to the end of the aforementioned long and painful writing tape.

Enjoy "Consequence Of Laughing" in it's original form. This is "Immune".
