Lyrics
Down on your luck and you feel like your boat is sinking The look in your eyes makes me think that you've lost control You pull out a gun and confess that you're tired of thinking Arms at your side when you smile and you say hello It's nice to meet you We've all been there Life's not easy Please take care When you fall down When you lose Go and save yourself Go and save yourself When the world weighs down on you Go and save yourself Go and save yourself Shoulders that bend and they break and they buckle [?] Oh, the bone's not designed to carry the weight of the world Get back on your feet, back on track, back to the beginning Put down the gun, it'll work out for you It's nice to meet you We've all been there Life's not easy Please take care When you fall down When you lose Go and save yourself Go and save your, save yourself When the world weighs down on you Go and save yourself Go and save your, save your, save yourself Save yourself Save your, save your

Song Notes
Title appeared on list of tracks from the recording sessions for Healthy in Paranoid Times in the 2004 holiday video.

"Save Yourself was recorded during an intense period in Maui with Bob Rock immediately following the Gravity tour. My memory is a bit foggy from that time period, but a few things stand out:

- Bob was either in the process of finishing or had just finished Metallica's St. Anger and he was enamoured with the process of recording live off the floor. This was quite a departure from the way in which we had recorded Gravity and we were ready for it as we had just come off the road and our chops were up.

- This was early in our creative relationship with Steve and we couldn't have been more excited to start recording.

- We wanted to surprise everyone with a new record, but sometimes the best laid plans get lead astray.

- From time to time bands disagree and fight. If these disagreements revolve around the creative process, then they are worth having.

- It was really hot, even for Maui. This is not a bratty comment, we were privileged to be there, I just hear it and feel it in these demos.

When I listened back to Save Yourself for the first time, I was back in that room, sweating the heat, sweating the freedom of this new recording process. Knowing that we were not going to be precious with the music meant you that you had better get it right the first time. I hear our excitement of playing with Steve and in a strange way, I miss that old converted garage up on the hill overlooking the Pacific."
