Christmas is not about the birth of christ, it's about the return of light (in the northern hemisphere, anyway).

Actually yes Christmas is about the Birth of Jesus. Traditionally the birth of the ancient sun-god Attiss was celebrated on the 25th. The romans also celebrated Saturnalia which fell around the same time. Christmas took the place of these holidays. There is a reason after all, that the term "christ" is in the holiday.

A ton of the people here aren't even religious, and making a thread with any religious connotation is something one should do at their own risk. Therefor, on the CM, Christmas is about gifts.
I'll tell you tomorrow. We only open our pajamas on Christmas Eve. And Grandpa's present. But I'm pretty sure it's just a book. Maybe it will be a cook book.

stop being so damn bitter. Yes, we all know that christmas was designed by the evil corporations of the world to help spur capitalism.
For a lot of people, including me, it is about sharing time and gifts with the ones you love. Doesn't make it a bad thing just bcause you buy stuff for people.

one of my favorite parts is buying gifts for other people and seeing their faces when they open them and getting to spend time with other people in my family who i rarely see.

Especially if they were from the heart. I am SO excited to give away my presents cause I know they're gonna love them, and they weren't expensive and I didn't go into debt to get them.
I changed my mind, upon further inspection, I think Grandpa's gift is some sort of jewelry.
