What do you guys think about it? It isn't being practiced in Canada, but it is certainly in use in the United States. Do you belive that it's an effective deterrent against crime? More importantly, is it morally correct? What people do you belive should recieve the death sentence, or is there no such case- making life imprisonment a sufficient form of punishment?

i think that i'm pretty much against capital punishment. i just think it is more beneficial to keep those people locked up and study them so you can see what makes them tick and such.

What good is it? People still commit crimes that carry the sentence of death.

You know what I was thinking? Putting people in jail really is not going to help for many of them. If you're in jail for 15 years..that's a long fucking time. It's your life, you get used to it. You're more used to living in jail than outside, so you won't be that worried about getting back in.

Besides, many people end up in jail for one stupid mistake. Of course that should go punished, but years in jail with real horrible people, real criminals, that is not going to make them come out all shiny on the other side. And then there's just the generally bad people who are NEVER going to see other people's pain.

In conclusion, I know nothing.

I'm against it really. It's just murder itself. Murder one in America technically because it is planned out and such. But of course it's "legal" because the government said so. The purpose of prison terms is to resocialize the people in there back into society. It's hard to be resocialized if you're dead.

That is not the purpose of jail as it exists. Jail is "punishment", and pretty much guarantees that the prisoner will never be able to reintegrate properly into society.

Prison is a total institution. I was posting something I read from my TEXTBOOK and that's what it said the purpose of prison was for. :P

Well your textbook is full of bullshit. Since when do you believe everything you read? Go look up some numbers.
