There have been reports released saying that Arafat has died. However hospitals are reporting that he has not:

Either way, he certainly is in bad shape. What are your thoughts on how this may affect Palestine?

I just heard he's in a coma on the brink of death. He seems to have lost most political control of late anyway. I don't know how this will affect the Middle East.

My best friend is ecstatic. She's russian/israeli, and moved to Canada when she was 12. I dont really care either way, and as for it affecting Palestine, perhaps if a more lenient ruler were to come in things could have a better chance of being resolved. I dont know though. :\

It could go either way. On one hand if they try and bury him in Jerusalem things will fall apart even more. If however they don't and a SANE Palestinian ruler were to come to power I think that there is a slight possibility that the conflict could have a relatively peaceful outcome.

A taxi driver told me today that he thinks that Arafat is dead and they are trying to cover it because in his religion he is supposed to be buried within 24 hours and they haven't agreed on where to bury him yet. This sounds like it could be possible?

well he's either alive or brain dead. dunno what his religion says about brain-deadness...

I heard that he is near death but the only reason they are keeping him alive is because he has a huge stash of cash and they are trying to get it out of him where he hid it before he dies.

And the conspiracy theories continue to abound  I should get a census of Montreal Taxi Drivers' opinions on the subject

I'd believe it. He's the 6th richest man in the world. He just pretends to be impoverished.

Poser

Well it's official, Arafat is dead.

Really, I don't know where things will go from here. If Arafat was the best Palestinian Leader, then there's not much hope. Ever since he turned away the 90% deal, I've lost faith in him as a leader. Wherever things go now, I hope for the best.

Not that I doubt you, but do you have a link, perhaps? Thanks.

:( I dislike dead people.
