you need a credit card to have paypal (or that's how i set mine up anyway) .. then paypal bills your credit card like a $1.00 i think .. then when you see the bill there's a 4 digit code you need for verification. that's what i had to do anyway .. i have no clue about setting it up through a bank account.

EWW, they CHARGED YOU?!?! When I signed up, they gave me $5. Course... this was back in the early days of Paypal when they needed people to join.

Anyway, Johnathan. Sign up, it'll ask you for your information when you do so. And, I do believe they now require a credit card to join. What should happen (at least this is how they used to do it) is they'll get your info, then put a random amount of money into your bank account (a few cents), and when you see that amount, you report back to them with that amount to confirm it is in fact your bank account and not somebody else's.

The way mine worked was they charged $1 to my credit card but in the transaction description was a code - 4 digits or something like that. To verify my account I had to get the code by looking at my credit card account online (it was also on my paper statement) and type that into paypal. Then they gave me at least $1 credit the first time I actually used paypal.

You only get charged if you want your account verified. You can still use an unverified acct.

I think when you sign in it asked if you want to be verifeid. I choose not to be cause I don't want my bank info on their.

for me when I go to my account info it says unverified. If I click on that it brings me to a screen telling me how I can get verified.

Okay, I can help with this, since I had months and months of ongoing troubles with paypal.

Originally Canadians could verify their paypal account with their bank account or Visa number. However that's changed now. If you're a foreign user from the USA, your account will be UNVERIFIED. You can't do anything about it for now. I know, you have to go through the stupid steps of paying whatever little money it is, it was like 2 bucks for me back in the day to verify it, or whatever, but now all foreign Paypal accounts are considered UNVERIFIED.

Email them, harass them about, I don't care. I still can't use my VISA for Paypal, and that's all I had when I signed up, because they didn't have the bank account option for Canadians. They didn't care though, their answer: Get another credit card.

So now my credit card shows up as a backup fund, but you know what happens if I don't have enough money in my bank account to cover the cost? It doesn't take the funds from the VISA like it's supposed to. Instead I get billed to my paypal account, saying that paypal had to cover the funds and that my paypal balance is negative.

Then they send you hundreds of emails reminding you that if you don't pay it within a certain amount of time they'll prosecute you and take legal action!!!

Aside from all that... Paypal's still the easiest thing to use when purchasing online.

Okay... so for me it wasn't all that easy...
