Anyone here on a wireless connection? How is it? is the network reliable?

Me and my housemates are getting a wireless network for our net connection, and I was just wondering how they've been for you guys.

I love mine. But it took me 5 hours to set up because of my lack of intelligence. It's really reliable, and I can walk down the street and still be able to use it. Just as a warning, if you set up a network, make sure you've got it password protected. If youre neighbors have wireless networks too, they can access your files if you don't have a password. 99% of the time, you really shouldnt have to worry about that though.

i love it and would definitely recommend it. it's as reliable as my cable modem is, which isn't very reliable, but that's no fault of the wireless router, i've just got crap for cable service.

it's kind of sick now though. i hardly ever leave my room. or bed for that matter. i sleep with my track ball at the ready on my bedside table.

Is mine the only wireless that's not reliable? Haha, the main computer is upstairs and I'm two floors down...thus far it has not been fun. Stay away from SMC.

mine is crap too. the signal fluxuates at random and sometimes cuts out.

And it's completely frustrating? Like you want to throw either yourself or your computer out the window?

Ya that's what I've heard. I've also heard that it depends on the type of router you have. Apparently G-routers are way more reliable than B-routers.

WiFi routers (im fairly sure its just .b and not g but dont quote me on that) can create cellular dead-zones

if y'all plan on actually downloading stuff on a frequent/semi-frequent basis you wont get as good bandwith as you would with a wired connection

I have no idea what sort of router I have...but I do plan on using it at school I geuss if it doesn't work I'll just have to hook it inot the wall. Gr.

802.11 G/Bs operate at 2.4 gigs the same frequency range as 2.4 gig cordless phones. Sometimes the cordless phone will cause interference with your wirless network. But if you change the channel on the cordless, place the phone in a differnt location or get a higher/lower frequency phone, there shouldn't be a problem.

I'm on the wireless right now and it's doing well.
