Windsor Star
Monday, July 12, 2004
A teenaged suspect who somehow lost his shoes Sunday after attacking and robbing a corn vendor in South Windsor remains at large.
The 16-year-old vendor, a female, was hawking corn next to the Burger King at Dougall Avenue and Norfolk Street about 5:35 p.m. when the incident occurred.
Police say the suspect pushed the victim from behind as she was leaning into a vehicle and attempted to steal the cash box.
"She struggled with him and, ultimately, he punched her in the eye," said Windsor police Staff Sgt. Mike Kelly.
The suspect grabbed the cash and fled north toward the Grand Marais ditch as a man who witnessed the robbery gave chase.
"He ran a considerable distance," said Kelly.
Police aren't sure how, precisely, but the young suspect lost his shoes as he fled.
Another man who witnessed the commotion confronted the boy, who dropped the cash box and continued running.
The box and the suspect's shoes have been seized by police.
Police units blanketed the area and Beezel the police dog was summoned to see if he could pick up the scent.
The suspect is described as a 15-year-old Hispanic male with short, dark hair. He is about five-feet-eleven-inches with a medium build. He was wearing black, blue and brown pants and an Orlando Magic shirt with the phrase "Hard way" written on it.
