This made my day. Yeah if you go with what Joel suggested you can't go wrong, the first thing you need to decide though is which singer you like better, IME switched from Edwin to Brian after 2 albums and there is a considerable difference. Brian is much more unique and his albums were very prog rock. Edwin's were more califrornia rock.

Love Your Starfish, When did you get back from mars?, God Rocket (it all hinges on the emotional ending of the song) No coma, Like the Sun, are all other good Brian songs.

As for Edwin.....

Not Quite Sonic, Earth, Sky & C (just for the guitar work), Used to Be Used to Be alright, Undone, Another Sunday, One More astronaut

Most of it's good stuff, although i'm not going to lie to you, ussually you can expect to have to listen to the albums several times to really appreciate them. It's kinda like listening to an album of mostly songs like "Car Crash" and "all my friends" at least as far as growing on you. IME almost NEVER use normal song structure and use tons of epic songs, rarely dropping below 5 mins. They're always full of great guitar work though, strong bass, and everchanging drums. Not to mention brian's voice crooning, shrieking, bellowing, soothing, and grinding.

Woah.

I bought The Quicksilver Meat Dream today.

Holy fuck.

From the ones I've downloaded, I like Brian's voice a lot more, though Edwin's voice is also good. Brian just seems so much more interesting to listen to.

I love the well crafted structures. The absolutely amazing guitar work. In fact, all of the instruments are extremely good and complex. In that way, there's kind of like The Music - the amazing complexity of each instrument working off of the others.

Next one I'll buy is definately going to be Blue Green Orange. Just 'cause it's Brian. heh.

I should be studying right now.

I really should.

But I'm listening to TQMD instead.

I love how stuff is so unconventional that it can catch me off guard on first listen.

Example: The weird drum pause in I Is Us, where the beat complete stops, and then picks up at a different point, completely altering the timing (around 4:33).

These guys are an awesome band. Jag's my favorite guitarist around right now. He's got some ridiculous riffs.

TQMD was the album of 2003 IMO. So good. I wasn't a fan of Blue Green Orange and was really skeptical of TQMD based on the last album, but man was I wrong. Brian's voice improved about 20384508350 times.

Scenery & Fish is still my favorite album though.

You know, OLP still is my favorite band.... but if they put out another Gravity and IME's next album (assuming there is one..) is anything like TQMD... man it would be close.

So, IME hasn't broken up? I'm still confused about that, because I remember reading Sean's post about their huge 4 hour concert a while ago, and how it would probably be their last...?

Gail, that was Blue Green Orange. The only album to come out after that was The Quicksilver Meat Dream, in 2003.

They released two singles off of the new album: Like the Sun and No Coma.

Even though it's about as mainstream as IME will get, Like the Sun is arguably my favorite track off the new disc.

Even though it is as "mainstream as they will get", it's still pretty far from the mainstream sound. And yes, that is an amazing track.
