Mine have changed a ton. I really didn't stray far from my little niche of OLP, MGB and sometimes moist and bush, up untill this year. Now it's been a full out buying frenzy. My musical tastes have broadened and become more mature tenfold. To the point where i find an album like Gravity pretty immature. I listen to grunge stuff like Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. Garage stuff like The Vines, and Jet. Prog stuff like APC and IME. Funky stuff like Incubus and RHCP. Even mildly country and poppy stuff like Hawksley Workman and Ryan Adams. And of course those are just the big commercial bands that i listen to. Have any of you guys noticed a change in your musical tastes? I would like to say i've grown out of OLP but i really haven't because i still love albums like Naveed, and Happiness, instead of growing out of OLP i think they regressed out of what my tastes were.

well iv discovered the local scene, i didnt realize there were so many good indie bands in my area, probably all thanks to a matt good show last april where two local bands opened and from them i discovered many more

There's always a couple of bands wherever you go. Sometimes you have to ask around.

Over the past year, my tastes have broadened a lot too. Before this past year, I had a knee-jerk reflex that made me think everything released by OLP is good. I ignored the fact that I would skip a lot of songs when I was listening to Gravity, even some stuff on the other albums. To me, they were 100% amazing and anyone who thought otherwise just needed to see a show with me.

Yeah, I don't have that blind faith any more. I don't even think that way about U2's music now, and my love for them was almost a religion. Now that I have some experience working with musicians, they aren't as glamourous as they used to be.

I've gotten into some local stuff. I know a lot of guys who are in bands, and there's a few I try to check out whenever they play. And probably 75% of everything I listen to is from people from Canada. I'm starting to find random indie bands and falling in love with them.

I haven't forgotten about my OLP love, but I have branched off into goth / melodic / power metal such as Nightwish, Moonspell, Arch Enemy, and many others.

I don't know if my tastes have grown...so much as I realized what they were.

I'm really into rock right now that has good vocals. Like OLP but more along the lines of Incubus, RHCP, Goo Goo Dolls, Pilate, and Blink 182. I think recently I've gotten a little mainstream with whats in my CD player but then again I usually go band hunting over the summer when I have time to.

I also listen to a lot that strays from what I just described. I have Bloodhound Gang, Hot Hot Heat, Nirvana, and Alicia Keys in my rotation right now.

There is no local scene here.

Theres a couple decent local bands. One that's basically a cover band and another thats a cover/originals band, but nothing much more.

My taste has changed, a bit, because I don't listen to nearly as much rap as I used to. I listen to more rock type shit now.

over the past year or even two i'd say that what i listen to has changed a lot. i used to religiously listen to bands like RHCP, bush, OLP, matt good, weezer, foo fighters etc... and although i still listen to those bands occasionally and sometimes a lot, they've really moved down the ladder of cds that i play a lot. over the past year it's been about alkaline trio, thursday, death cab for cutie, hot water music, the cure, bright eyes, andrew wk etc... i think my musical taste has changed a lot because i've changed a lot too. i guess that's how it works.

i think first half of last year they changed a ton....

recently no huge change. I've been pretty safely away from pop-punk for a while now, so it's more about me finding new bands that i like and can branch off with, but not so much about any significant changes.



i am getting a little bored though.. it's time to go band hunting.

ive always had eclectic taste in music and its always been all over the place so that hasnt changed at all
if anything with a larger hard drive i can find more things to listen to and such so thats about it really
its almost arbitrary how i'll download specific songs if i like i usually keep.. if i dont like.. i usually delete (but not always due to laziness)

mine has changed a fair bit over the last year. About the only time I listen to OLP any more these days is when it's on the radio, or when I just get the urge and pull out a CD. I used to be pretty much just a huge OLP fan, with a bit of vintage stuff like old Nirvana and 'Pumpkins; stuff like that.

Now I find myself listening to country-tinged Ryan Adams a lot (I hate country, but dig RA; go figure) and singer-songwriter stuff (Matt Nathanson); the biggest change has been the discovering of Graham Colton Band; which is a Sister Hazel-ish genre I'd never really listened too that much outside of the Counting Crows.

My tastes haven't really changed, although I have gotten into a lot more bands since last year. I think I've realized more that not just a certain type of music is good. I've also stopped caring what people think about what I listen to. I just listen to what I like.

Me too! Except the same thing leads us in different directions...interesting. I used to think that only certain music was good, but recently I've been thinking that's just not a good philosophy. I have started to listening to more country, more rap, and even some pop. I really could care less, if i like it, then I listen to it.

I can't remember what I listened to last year

lately I'm listening to melodic metal like In Flames and Lacuna Coil, and am very much immersed in the whole emo/punk thing, especially Alkaline Trio, Hot Water Music, Taking Back Sunday, Thrice, and Thursday. And a bunch of bands that can kind of be called emo/punk, but not really, like Sparta, Mars Volta, Pretty Girls Make Graves, and so on. And, of course, there's always good, pure rock like Muse, Matthew Good and his Band, and The Music.

I am really happy someone asked this question.

About a year ago, if someone had asked me who 'Matthew Good' was, i would have laughed and said 'I have no idea.' Now if someone were to ask me that same question, i'd go crazy and say, 'Oh My God! You know of him!??? AAAAAAAAAAHHHH Awesome!'

Also, I became drawn to emoish bands (DCFC, Postal Service, Thursday) and hardcore punk bands (ATDI, Thrice) and some... intelligent bands (Mars Volta, Radiohead). I also started getting drawn away from nu-metal (Linkin Park, Dry Cell). I really opened up my eyes to true musicianship.

Just recently, I have gotten into Outkast. Which is a HUGE step for me because i always told myself that rap/hip hop was the devil.

The bands I've mentioned I've always heard, but never relly checked into them. I've had several instances of downloading an unfamiliar track title and going 'OMFG I know this song ' (as was the case when I downloaded Naveed some years ago)

I've gotten into a lot of different bands in the past year, thanks to the CM. I absolutely love Matt Good (Band) and I didn't really get into it until sometime last year (shame). I also got into Alkaline Trio and Radiohead who I also love. And I really like a lot of emo-ish bands such as Brand New, Thursday, Bright Eyes etc. Also: The Stills, Elliott Smith, Cursive, Hot Hot Heat, Deftones, The Darkness, I Mother Earth.. the list goes on..

My tastes really started to break away from what I used to listen to to what I listen to today about two years ago. I only got into OLP after Gravity came out, and I didn't even like Gravity all that much. Overall, my tastes are still pretty straightforward, but I do seem to be a lot more openminded these days, and can easily sort the good from the bad (when I say bad, I mean the artificial manufactured drivel. I don't have to think a band is good to think they're at least trying).

I occaisionally listen to various jazz stuff like miles, wayne shorter, and charlie parker.
I also occaisionally listen to brand new, radiohead, massive attack, and the united future organization.


My musical universe was always OLP-centric until last year, when I started trying to subconsciously branch out. I was introduced to jazz and started listening to linkin park religiously (and for non-musical reasons. I'll explain some other time if anyone cares).

This year I am now somewhat accquainted with emo and jam bands. While I still listen to OLP fairly heavily (mainly naveed and SM, and not happiness because I lost it or gravity at all) there are now other musical influences in my life.
