The Rwanda Tragedy

This year is not only the 10th year of Naveed's release. April marks 10 years since the genocide in Rwanda. In 100 days, 800,000 tutsi minorities were slaughtered by hutu majority hardliners. This brutal act parallels the holocaust. Machetes were given to hutu civilians by the extremists, and they turned upon their tutsi neighbors, killing many. Like the jews in Europe, the tutsi were looked upon as the vermin under the hutu feet. Very little was done by any nation to stop this. I think it's important to remember what happened to tutsis, who were hacked, shot, and clubbed into death pits. May this never happern again.

I didn't know that was 10 years ago.

In any case it was the first genocide recognized by the UN since the holocaust and the UN did jack shit about it when they had information to prevent it.

Thank you Global Issues.

no one did anything. I heard about it this morning on NPR. An american man stayed to protect his tutsi laborers. He got supplies for an orphanage where refugees were hiding and almost died many times.

Guatemala wasn't recognized as a genocide? That's horrible. So many Mayans died.
