nah see thats just typical BS that the TO media feeds ppl
you think money wins cups? if so look at the rangers. they have lots of cash and spend it freely, its great, and hmmm lets see here, how many cups have they won since 1990 compared to montreal? oh yeah thats right.. the same amount.. wow.. and since was antropov a guy a team couldnt afford?
we can afford to pay guys like francis, almo, bumdin and belfour but i personally would rather have koivu, ribeiro, ryder, zednik, theodore and kovalev, why you may ask?
simple.... look at how much they make and how many points they have:
antro: .925 million 55 games, 25 pts
francis: 4.4 mil 73 games, 32 pts
almo: 5.5 mil 30 games, 24 pts
sundin: 9 mil 74 games, 70 pts
belfour: 7 mil 52 games: 29/18/5 w/ 2.17 GAA
total salary: 26.825 mil
average age: 35.6 years old
ryder: .6 mil 73 games, 57 pts
theodore: 5.5 mil 61 games: 31/24/5 w/ 2.17 GAA
koivu: 4.25 60 games, 54 pts
ribeiro: .847 mil 73 games, 61 pts
zednik: 1.85 mil 73 games, 48 pts
kovalev: 6.6 mil (thanks to the rags) 70 games, 44 pts
total salary: 19.647 mil
average of 6 players: a tad over 27 years (27.3333333333333... to be more precise)
so, lets see about that, younger, cheaper, and we dont have to worry about our starting goaltenders back seizing up at any given moment and end up stuck with a guy more worried about his facial hair colour/size/shape and whatever other crap kidd worries about (he obviously isnt worried about improving his game since he couldnt possibly be worst) .... yep im pissed the habs cant afford those guys

.. definately mad.. yeppers..
and finally, considering TO only has a whopping 4 pt lead on mtl in the overall standings, and the habs have a very young nucleus and havent done anything to hurt its depth in Mtl or hamilton (unlike TO and trading away 1st round picks and kids like brad boyes, alyn mccauley or the guys they gave up for leetch) they will be a contending team for a long time to come. the same cant be said for the leafs (or avs, wings, blues, and any other team with a payroll that is significantly above the 40 mil level [for the record the habs payroll this year when including buying out the contracts of a few players and such came out to roughly 45 mil, but will be dropping by atleast 6 mil at the end of the season since a few guys will not be brought back]) if the NHL does indeed get its way and put in the hard cap at around 40-45 mil (from whats being said currently, closer to 40 mil at which point sundin would make 22.5% of the overall salary.. and unless he puts up numbers like gretz when he was breaking the 150 pt barrier, he isnt remotely worth it
