I was on Musicmatch, and there was a category of music called Acid Jazz. I clicked on it, and it's like nothing I've ever heard. The best way I can describe it is as a mix between jazz and techno. Not neccesarily good, but definitely not like anyone else. Does anyone know anything about Acid Jazz, particularly the United Future Organization?

this is different. Not quite acid jazz though. More like acid funk. I like it. Check out United Future Organization. Especially their first album. Good stuff.

i'm not really sure why this is all described as "acid". when you think of acid, you think caustic, abrasive....i don't think i'd describe synthetic clear tonality made by the electric instruments in techo as any of that. when i think of what acidic music would sound like, there is more noise and extreme harmonic imbalance, sort of like grunge instrumentation and vocals. just one more reason to think that the people who come up with these genre names must sit around getting high throwing darts at a dartbord with basic musical classification syntax

I doubt that there's a complex reasoning for it being called acid jazz. Behind it all the only reason it's acid jazz is because most of it sounds like listening to jazz while on acid. Having a techno beat is like having the percussion in jazz magically amplified. I've heard some stuff that's an Acid take on latin jazz. That's really weird because of the rythms that latin jazz has. There's this group from Brazil that does that. I forgot what they're called though.
