i got a phone call last night while i was out from my sister who i havnt talked to in 8 years and havnt seen in even longer, she is about 18 now, im 24.She is going to be phoning back,i feel nervous and really awkward.What do you talk about with someone that you havnt seen in so long and really dont know anything about. I should feel happy and excited, but its almost the oppisite feeling.

That sort of situation can be stressful. I guess you are "supposed" to know things about your sister and when you don't you feel guilty. Its best to just ask as many questions as possible and at least attempt to care about their life. I sort of know what your talking about because I have brothers that are older then me and have moved away and I really don't know anything about them, but I want to change that, and I don't really know how sometimes.

Maybe you're just nervous. 8 years is a long time to not talk to someone .

Well, it all depends on why you don't talk to them in the first place. I don't know if there is a reason to this, but a lot of times if you have a reason to be upset with a family member it takes much longer to get over it as opposed to someone who you wouldn't expect so much out of. Also, eight years is a long time and even if you did know something, you would have no idea how to converse with her. Most brothers don't know how, even when they see their little sister daily. Just don't worry so much about it because I am very sure she is probably feeling the same way... Don't worry about saying the wrong thing or doing the wrong thing...because you won't. If she called you, then that means that she wants to talk to you and she wants a relationship with you so go for it.

If you don't have anything against your sister, I'd recommend just asking questions about her life, and try to show her that you care about her.

maybe she's really slow at dialing the phone! So she hasn't called yet...

You never know, it could be one reason they haven't talked in 8 years. It took her that long to dial the phone the first time!
