KIEV, Ukraine Jan. 22 ---Ukraine's youngest ever mother on record, an 11-year-old girl, has given birth to a healthy baby boy weighing 3.8 kilograms (8.4 pounds), a newspaper reported Thursday.

Surgeons at hospital No. 5 in the eastern city of Kharkiv delivered the infant by Caesarean section on Tuesday, the Fakty daily said, citing the unidentified mother's doctor, Valentyn Gryshchenko.

Both mother and son are in good health, but will remain in the hospital under observation for a week.

The family of the sixth-grader refused to stop the pregnancy and "put everything in the hands of fate," Gryshchenko was quoted as saying.

The boy is expected to live at home with his mother and grandmother.

The newborn's alleged father is a 26-year-old neighbor who fled fearing criminal charges when he learned of the girl's pregnancy, Fakty said. If convicted of having sexual relations with a minor, the father faces a maximum prison sentence of three years.

this is the part that I find most disturbing. Don't you think a MAXIMUM of three years in just a little lenient?

If it was consentual, then no. If the two agreed to the sex, then there shouldn't be jail time involved.

With that said, the guy's still fucking creepy.

in my mind, no 10-11 year old's consent to have sex bears any meaning. this is rape, if you ask me. but that's just me.

but yeah, no 11 year old child has the mental capacity to really consent to having sex .. at that age they can't think of the consequences of what something like that will involve .. so i agree that should be looked at as rape .. what the hell does a 26 year old male see in an 11 year old child?

that's a tough situation .. because i wouldn't have agreed to an abortion either if i was that kids mother just because of my feelings towards abortion

Last year there was a girl in my school who told the whole class she was preganant... she was 12 or 13 at the time. I have no idea what happened to her after that because that was late in the year and she's not back in school this year (she is on the class lists and stuff though) word is her parents sent her away somewhere, and there were also rumors going around that they wouldn't let her have an abortion because she already had one or two

i would get the 26 year old mentally tested because he could be a pedophiliac or something like that. i mean why else would he want to have sex with an 11 year old? even if she was "mature for her age.." an 11 year old cannot look like an 18 year old

An 11 (or 10, as the case may be) year old girl is in NO way mature enough to consent to sex, alan. The 26 year old should be arrested. Really, really arrested.

yeah i find this whole thing wrong also, there was an 8 year old girl and 9 year old boy in china that were a couple and the girl gave birth to a child.
