i keep saying it, get really angry and write a whole bunch of stuff that would scare the hell out of any sane person. it works dammit

just write some crazy suicidal stuff if you're in the mood.. and keep em coming till they start to mellow out.

Well....to get rid of writer block.....you must expand your sphere of influence. If you're writing lyrics....listen to music that you wouldnt normally listen to.

Exactly. I was listening to Jawbreaker and was writing some pretty simplistic, angry lyrics and everything sounded the same. Then I put At The Drive-In on, then I started writing these amazingly poetic songs with more than the basic power chord and simple pop-rock chords. A change in musical styles really influences what you write. Listen to Murder By Death or Interpol, and your songs will be the same feelings you had in the past, but will probably come out more eloquent. It's rather amazing if you think about it.
