Why Are Demo's Always Better?

Ok... i first saw this when i heard trapt's new version of 'headstrong.' I heard the demo of that song more than two years ago and i loved it! When i heard the re-make i thought it was terrible. Next came Finch's new version of 'what it is to burn' which pissed me off because it was terrible compared to the original which i had heard so long before. Then came A Static Lullaby's new version of 'the shooting star that destroys us all' This was the last straw, the demo of that song was one of the best song i had heard in a long time, and the new one sucks. But... thats not all... Billy Talent's new version of 'try honesty' is also terrible compared to the original. It is disgusting. The demo's are ten times better than the real versions. Why did they have to change?

I'm sure you guys could come up with more examples, but those were the ones that i came up with.

Anyways, the new version of billy talent's song just sounds retarded. The singer sounds like he has a cold while choking on a knife while being mauled by a pack of wolves. It's terrible.

It's because you're used to the old versions. You're used to hearing the songs under-produces and unfinished. Then, when you hear the different version, it sounds weird and bad.

For example, listen to Starseed. Then go listen to the Armageddon Soundtrack version. It doesn't have the "yeah yeah yeah he" in it. Makes me want to die when I hear it.

OH NO! not a whole 1 second of song that's changed!!!

anyways rob is right about the "you're just used to the original version" thing. I really doubt bands are deliberately trying to make their songs worse. If anything they probably think that the demos are crap. You probably just like it cause it's the band at it's rawest form.

Exactly. The bands are doing things they think are improvements.

Let's hope OLP is actually good for this reason.

There's no way to say something about "raw" any more without a crack about the band.

I think it could be due in part to bands overproducing songs. But I have to say that I heard 'try honesty' in its final form before I heard the demo and I can't stand hearing the demo, so there's obviously something to be said for the 'you're just used to it' idea.
