i love olp's cover of eternal life, but when it comes too a cover that has kicked my ass i'd have to go with this awesome local band 'portal' here in edmonton who once did a cover of aenema by tool. they pulled it off basically perfectly and effortlessly, anyone who can do that not only kicks my ass but owns my ass.

As for covers and local acts, if you ever see some guy with an acoustic guitar who opens for other acts in the Seattle area, and he says he's going to cover "Are You Sad?", run for the hills before that song is ruined forever for you.

by Sufjan Stevens
Alkaline Trio - Exploding Boy (originally by The Cure)

Ahhh it's late or else I would think of more.

hmmmm normally tori amos's version of teenspirit would be to chickish for me but i'm actually digging it, in a slow depression way, but Cobain was a tortured soul/genius

I think Johnny Cash's "Hurt" goes without saying.

OLP- Eternal Life (Buckley), Needle and the Damage Done (Young), Tomorrow Never Knows (Beatles), and All I Want is You (U2). I really like the version of Imagine played in the cross-canada club tour (2000), but it definitely doesn't kick my ass on the war child cd...

other cool covers- boys of summer (ataris), leavin on a jet plane and wild horses (chantal k)... and for some reason i really like everclears version of brown eyed girl
