I play poker with some friends and ever since my boyfriends' roommate came back from Missouri he's wanted to play it all the time over other poker games. He'd play it a lot with the bartenders in his hotel after hours because there was not much else for him to do. Me on the other hand, since I started dealing more than just five card draw, I like to play Follow the Bitch (or Follow the Queen for those who call it by the regular, boring name). I am trying to learn new games though.

A variation of poker. Each player is dealt 2 cards...then a card is burned (discarded) then 3 community cards are turned over (the flop), another card is burned and a 4th community card is turned over (the turn) another card is burned and a 5th community card is turned (the river) so basically it's 7 card stud but everyone plays with the 5 cards on the table...a lot of stratagy involved...good game!

The game really isn't that hard to understand. You're dealt two cards that no one can see. There are five cards that are dealt out onto the table. You try to make your best five card hand while betting.
You bet once after the first three cards are dealt. Then you bet after the fourth card, and you bet after the fifth card. You can scare people away by bluffing your bets, just like in regular poker. It's an easy game to understand. Just watch ESPN, it's on all the time.

Sounds like a game you'd need to see played and not just explained over a message board

Most poker games tend to be understood better when you see them in action.

i have to play about once a week or i feel like i am missing out, texas hold em is basically the easiest form of entertainment, and you can play for hours/days

As long as you have chips, you're still in it for the fun. This is quite possibly the best form of card entertainment ever.
