What's the most you've ever paid for a CD?

As I posted a few days ago, I've been spending a lot of time searching the net for a cd from the modern-jazz band The Bad Plus called "Authorized Bootleg." I have their first cd and their 3rd. This is their second and it's out of print.

I e-mailed http://www.thecdplace.net to see if they had it in stock (they don't have all of their inventory listed online) and they didn't. They did tell me that they could search for it for an $8 fee. At first I was thinking, well, I could search for it on my own just fine. But then I saw on their site that 95% of the requests they get are found and I know there's nowhere near a 95% chance that I'll find it on my own. So I e-mailed them back and asked how much they thought it would cost if they got it in. I really wasn't expecting the responce I got...They said that it's extremly rare (which I am pretty sure is right because I can't even find mention of it in too many places) and that it would cost between $95 and $150.

I really love The Bad Plus, so I'm actually thinking about going for it! I'm going to their concert tomorrow, so I'll try to see if I can talk to any of the members or maybe there will be someone at the merch stand who knows something and I'll see if they think that's a good idea or if they know of anywhere where it would go for cheaper.

Now, after all that, getting to the subject of the thread. What is the most you've ever paid for a cd? Would you consider paying up to $150 for a really rare cd from one of your favorite bands? Post your feedback.

Man, that seems a little pricey for a cd. I don't think you should shell that much money out there, unless you plan on selling it somewhere else and making money on it later. If you want to keep it though, do you think it's worth the $150?

I wouldn't mind getting like the Alkaline Trio demo tape, but that goes for a good $125 on ebay, and I don't think it's worth it, no matter how awesome it would be to say I have my favorite band's find recordings.

The most i've paid is probably 25 for an import. I don't think i'd ever spend 150 on a cd

Well, I think the most I've ever paid is $25 or something, which isn't bad at all. However, when I buy "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" by the Smashing Pumpkins I can probably expect to pay a lot. At least that's what my SP obsessed friend told me. Damnit all.

I think the most I've paid is about 30 for the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack. Couldn't find it anywhere and when I finally did I was willing to pay for it.

Don't think I'd ever pay $150 for a cd though. Unless I was really loaded. Which I'm not. :(

Around $30 maybe? Usually I try and avoid expensive CDs but sometimes you have to do what you have to do :P

I payed $36 for a Reel Big Fish album once. It was even and old album from atleast three years ago.

And they wonder why CD sales are in decline. Stupid record companies, you're all so stupid.

I spent 24.99 for a copy of "How Does Your Garden Grow?" by Better Than Ezra. I should have bought it from the merch people because I think they sold it for only 20.

I got Alkaline Trio's "I Lied My Face Off" for $20. That's the most I've spent on a cd. And it's out of print and 3000 exist. I scored big time with that sucker.

*thinks* Geez. I've paid some pretty crazy prices for cds. I'm gonna say my most expensive was probably... hmm... I'm gonna say at least $50. That's just a guess, though... I don't feel like looking through my reciepts.

if you're financially stable right now, and you know you'll absolutely love it, then yes i'd say go for it. a good enough cd is worth that.

Where do you work?!?! I work at FYE and they only give 30% (20% off the used cds)

Anyway, I think I actually may buy this cd. I just saw them live last night and they were awesome...I'd say equal to the best OLP show I've seen (which was hands down the best show I've ever seen before last night)...very different than OLP, but awesome nonetheless. Check the concerts thread for a review.

I just remembered how I spent about $40 buck on a two-disc live compilation by the Rheostatics.
