I've been checking out where I can get this cd. The only place I've seen it has been on ebay and it goes for like $100 and up. I've actually seen one or two copies going for well over $200!!! I'm not that big a fan, but I'd like to have the cd and would be willing to pay like maybe $50 + shipping. Does anyone have any ideas or other sites (auction or otherwise) where I could get it for less than on ebay?

Ahh you have to learn about the lovely world of eBay. If you get into a band before they go huge and have one of their limited pressed albums, you can make huge money off of it.

I'll use Alkaline Trio as an example. They released their first 7" EP called Sundials back in 1998 and only pressed 500 copies. Now, a copy of Sundials goes for $75 on ebay, and Alkaline Trio doesn't even get played on MTV.

Now you take Evanescence. They made music before this cd, and I am assuming this cd was a rare pressing too. Now Evanescence is huge and have had what I think was a #1 hit. Now all these copies resurface and are worth some serious money because there are a lot of crazy fans out there. That's how it gets to such high prices.

Now as for you, Troy. I don't know how much you really like Evanescence, so don't get mad at me for saying this. I don't mean to offend, but I don't see them having another hit like this song. When the first song you release is so huge, you're almost guaranteed to flop with whatever you do. I recommend you don't purchase it unless you plan to resell it right away for a profit, because you don't want to spend a good amount of money on a cd of a band that might not be popular come 2004.

A limited edition of the Dork E.P. by AFI went for $2000.

No offence taken...I think I see your point. Are you saying that assuming they don't have any other #1 hits (or at least really big hits) that if I wait a year or so it will go for much less? That does make sense! I'm a big fan of their first cd, but not big enough to warrent spending 200 bucks on a cd.

Thanks!

Popularity shouldnt change whether or not you like an older CD. Still, it's crazy to spend that much on a CD. Try to find a burnt copy - the band wouldn't profit from you buying a copy over eBay anyway.

this is one of those rare occurances when it wouldnt be immoral to burn it.

Exactly Troy. I can tell you right now, if Evanescence falls off the map and you buy their cd for $100, you will feel stupid. Odds are, the cd will drop down in value soon enough. I've been watching ebay for Alkaline Trio stuff, and you could see the prices change drastically in a matter of a month. Here's an example.

Before Alkaline Trio's new cd came out, their Sundials EP would go for $60-75. When their new cd came out, the EP would go for at least $100. Two weeks after the cd came out, the EP went back down to the normal price of $75.

Now this EP will always be expensive like this because Alkaline Trio has a bit of a following, the people bidding on it are those hardcore fans and whatnot. With Evanescence, you have a band that, for the most part, came out of nowhere and hit it huge. Give it a month, those cds will drop down drastically in price if they don't release another huge single, and odds are, you wouldn't want to buy it then. If they do release another big single, the cds will stay at the same price. For value, the cd is at its peak right now, so just burn the cd and you'll be ok.
