21 here, but it's not like it matters anyway, because I don't drink.

It's kind of complicated here - although you have to be 18 to buy alcohol you can actually drink from the age of 5 (yes - that's five) in private places (at home, private parties etc.) I think you can also have beer or wine with a meal in a restaurant from the age of 16 - but don't quote me on that.

And it's nothing like the scary drinking age enforcements in the US. I was 20 when I was last there and it was awful! Checking ID up to the age of 30 and arresting people and breathalysing them if they're underage drinking is just wierd. I think I was only ever asked for ID 3 or 4 times from the age of 16 onwards and a couple of those times I think I was 20 anyway!

yeah here in canada it's the same toughness on drinking, proabbly cause we don't have the same traditions of drinking as the UK and much of europe (france), we also are allowed to drink in private places and at restraunts with our parents supervision too though, so i guess we're like a mix between the states and the UK

I know B.C. and Ontario is 19, while Montreal and Alberta is 18.

Personally, I think the law shouldn't be enforced base on age, but on intelligence, there are a lot of 16 year olds who are smarter and more mature than those 45 year olds.

Why not? Have everyone take an exam at a certain age and whoever fails cannot drink alcohol!

I think I got myself a thesis I can work on.

That's a great law!

And I think in Ontario you are allowed to drink at any age as long as it is on your property, under the supervision of your parents, and not to the point of inebriation. Stupid Ontario. 19? Why not 18 like most of the rest of the freaking country?! WHY?!! I suppose the only solution would be to go to Hull with older friends. ...Excellent.

It's not like it's hard to get alcohol if you really want to drink that badly and you're underage .. I still get carded no matter where I go cuz I look a lot younger than I am.

i'm sure when i'm older i'll appreciate it more .. but right now it's more of a pain in the ass .. if i'm seen shopping during the day at a mall i'll have people come and ask me why i'm not in school or something .. i was carded 2 weeks ago for trying to rent a dvd on MY blockbuster card cuz it was R rated and she thought i was underage .. um no ..
