Good Punk/Emo Songs!

My boyfriend likes rap/hip-hop and all the that shit on MuchMusic and Kiss92. He knows I hate it. Really. Yesterday me and my friend sang Swing, Swing by The All American Rejects and I don't know if that changed his opinion but it seemed to. I also took this questionnare of him and well yeah, in a question it was like, "What kind of music do I like" and I put down "BAD MUSIC!!!" and he told me that he never knew the music he listened to was "distasteful"

So he said to give him a "punk" cd on Monday so he can listen to it and he might like it. I need ideas of what kinds of catchy songs to start a person off liking punk/emo? Emo is my favourite type of music but maybe I'll hold back on that.. it's something you have to grow into and I think that may scare him. If I succeed in getting him to like me & Julie's kinda music well.. my year long mission is complete! So any good songs?

It seems kind of... well, controlling, to try to change someone's music tastes. And it's judgmental to call rap/hip-hop "Bad Music".
But, I digress. If you really want him to be switched over to punk/emo, use these songs:
(punk)
The Clash - London Calling
The Clash - Should I Stay Or Should I Go
The Ramones - Teenage Lobotomy
The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop
Operation Ivy - Bombshell
Rancid - Journey To The End of East Bay
(emo)
The Ataris - Your Boyfriend Sucks
The Ataris - San Dimas High School Football Rules
Piebald - American Hearts ("HEY! You're part of it!" yeah, that song. I'm surprised it gets radio play. Go ANDOVER PREPPIES!)
Piebald - Where Have All The Classics Gone
(punkish, emoish music)
The Used - Buried Myself Alive (okay, honestly... the lyrics read like an emo song)

i dont think its that bad to try and change someone's style while their in grade 7 or 8, a lot of people havent heard much of the good music out there.
I suggest some early New Foung Glory stuff, its not bad music and its probly not too hard to catch on to.
Also Action and Action/ Red Letter day by the get up kids was good right off the bat for me.

Alkaline Trio. Any song you download by them is seriously worth your time. It is a little harsh lyrically, but it's great music. Songs like 97, Dead End Road, Stupid Kid, Another Innocent Girl, Sorry About That, and You've Got So Far To Go are great.
Hot Rod Circuit is another great great band. Check out The Pharmacist, Knees, Radiation Suit, and Now Or Never.
Really, and Vagrant Records band is seriously worth checking out if you wanna find some amazing music. The only Vagrant band that disappoints me is The Anniversary, but yeah, people do tend to like them.
Ahh yes, you also have to check out The Early November. D/l Ashala Rock, Everynight's Another Story, I Want to Hear You Sad, and Come Back.
All these songs should start you into the genre really well.

Thanks guys

I myself haven't even heard of other good emo bands but I'll start downloading fast! This is what I have right now.
1. Great Romances Of The 20th Century - Taking Back Sunday (I thought the beginning would make him listen more)
2. Sweetness - Jimmy Eat World (great, great song)
3. Swing, Swing - The All-American Rejects (extremely catchy and of course we sang it..so)
4. Heroine - Something Corporate (always need a few slow songs)
5. Punk Rock Princess - Something Corporate (thought this would be cool to be right after the slow version)
6. Freakish - Saves The Day (may be scary to most ppl, but i must include it.. its my fav song)
7. Screaming Infidelities - Dashboard Confessional (gotta have some dashboard in there)
8. Take It Off - The Donnas (julie made me put this in here..)
9. Your Star - The All-American Rejects (love this song)
10. The Most Depressing Song - The Get Up Kids (another slow emoish one)
11. Ghost Man On Third - Taking Back Sunday (wanted to end off with a bang!)
.... any suggestions, comments, questions? please post!

It may scare him. Remember, he loves the song "Ignition by R. Kelly" and "Air Force Ones by Nelly" It's almost a hopeless case!

i hate Nelly with a passion. he is advertising shoes in his songs ... in great detail. what is wrong with that man?

Yeah, Hands Down is definatly their best song...but their other stuff is great too! I love the whole So Impossible EP. It's usually about 10 bucks in most places I've seen, and you might think that's a bit steep for 4 songs, but it's worth every penny and more
