Thom Yorke is a dick. They were in Toronto a couple years ago and my friends ran into them at some promotional interview and my friend Shawna asked him for a picture and he told her no. Would it really hurt that much to take a picture with a fan? I hear he is like that.

Radiohead isn't really that sort of band. To me, it would be strange if Thom Yorke was incredibly friend with fans.

I like that he's eccentric enough to refuse to play within a 50 mile radius of McDonald's.. or whatever distance they decided on, heh.

Speaking of the saddest man in showbiz, anyone heard Beck's new album? If you have, you'd know what I'm talking about.

I haven't met Thom Yorke, but from the bootlegs I heard (toss me in hell and burn me), it seems that he enjoys touring. I never thought Radiohead would be a band that would go on stage and ask the audience for request, tell jokes and say stuff like "This song is about....Hollywood! And it's called We Suck (pause) Young Blood".

I think Matt would be the happiest person in music biz, he seem to have complete control over everything. In fact, Matt is my ideal job, just throw a bunch of crap on the internet and kids would call it gospel, what a better job than that.

And yes I've heard of Sea Change, Beck IS pretty messed up.

But if this isn't just asking for saddest man in music biz today, wouldn't the person be Kurt Cobain?

Yorke is dumb. They played at the ACC or somewhere near there and ther are tons of burger shops and other "slaughter" houses up and down the streets. They are just being difficult for the sake of it. And why is he such a miserable guy anyway? He's got an audience to listen to him and all the music that he makes is suicidal pathetic mumbo jumbo.

Whine whine whine

I love Radiohead. I could care less if Thom Yorke is a dick or if he doesn't wanna play within a 50 mile radius of anything. I don't care that he tries to fight the world. I don't care that SOME of the lyrics are depressing and you can hardly understand a word he's fucking saying.

They make good music IMO, and that's all that matters.

If you don't like it, you don't have to listen to it...

But I s'pose that doesn't hold very much weight because I have a very tiny brain.

I think one of the stipulations of this thread is that the saddest person in music should be alive, because if you're dead, how can you still make sad music?

Anyways, I would say Matt Skiba is pretty fucked up/sad. He doesn't write too many happy, uplifting songs.

Songwriters always seem sad and then it always turns out that they're really a happy person in general...

What are the chances that Matt Skiba was not high or drunk at those interviews? Alcohol and weed will make anyone appear happy if you do enough of it.

skiba is more angry then sad, it seems to me.

Yeah, you have a point there. I guess it just depends on the reactions that people have. Some of his songs are angry and bitter, but he does have the whole depressing song thing down. Next To You gives off that depressing vibe, and it's rather amazing too, if you ask me, which you didn't.

But then, his anger seems to be fueled by depression. Songs like Radio, Good Fucking Bye, Bleeder, My Friend Peter, Snake Oil Tanker, and Jaked On Green Beers (there are more that would be better examples that I can't think of) all have a sense of anger directed towards some person, which is an ex. Hell, 97 is another good example. Whomever he writes these songs about really fucked him up. The songs are an outlet of telling that person off, with good music backing it up.

you're all gonna look at my funny, but I think that Elliott Smith has a unique brand of quiet, touching sadness, that goes really deep on an emotional level. it's not whiny sad though. more... resigned.
