Yeah, I really loved your poem. Going back and reading it, they're actually very similar. You use really evocative phrases and to me, that's really important.. that's what makes good poetry. Collectively, it has to fit well, and there's no real science to it, I guess, so I can't make blanket statements, but I think I really love Our Lady Peace's lyrics for Raine's brilliance when it comes to how to use words together to create an image in your mind. Looking at it from a practical point of view, the words are gibberish, but looking at it and thinking about how it makes you feel, emotionally or spiritually, whatever, it's beyond brilliant.

That's how I feel about the first four albums, anyway. Raine is going for something different on Gravity. Musically, I think it's as good as the other albums, if a bit less experimental.. but Bob Rock appreciates lyrics on a different level than me, apparently. Whatever, though.

Sometimes you get sick of trying to rationalize or even figure out how you feel, and it just becomes easier to let it flow, to acknowledge it and to appreciate it. That's what I did, here, I think.

exactly right. i think that good poetry should be focused more on evoking emotions than anything else, especially portraying information. the imformation is all just details, good poetry (or lyrics) should just make you think "yeah i know how that feels." in fact the only time can really ever write poetry is when i have a strong emotion, and then i just have to get it down on paper. that's when it flows best.

by the way, that was a pretty sweet poem :wink:
