They're just as good as OLP, in my eyes.. so that's saying quite a bit.

Oh yes..., I felt that Live was even better than OLP until V came out... Now I see it as OLP having 5 strong albums, and Live having 4, so they are about even because of Throwing Copper, easily my favorite album of all time. After all, what else can roll out Selling The Drama, I Alone, Iris, and Lightning Crashes in consecutive order. The album goes much deeper, though, with All Over You, Stage, my personal favorite Live song, Pillar of Davidson, and so much more. If only V had never been released...

Methman, what an appropriate name for you; because you're obviously ate up on hard drugs buddy! Live's "V" is an excellent album, as are all their previous albums. Why do you have such harsh criticism against "V"?

Ohhh, "Dolphin's Cry" was like my fave song for the longest time!!! My old crush would use to sing it to me because it sounded so beautiful coming from him *not saying that it doesn't sound good when Live is playing it* I also like "Lighting Crashes" and "I Alone" but they are the only ones i have downloaded so far....so i haven't heard any of their other songs...maybe to save time, i'll just go buy their CDs and not download them.

V is a superior album to Gravity, by FAR.

To me, Live has 5 good albums and Our Lady Peace has four. But I mean, they're pretty even, because those four are completely fucking brilliant. There's also stuff on Mental Jewelry, Secret Samadhi, and the Distance that just doesn't do it for me, unlike the first four OLP albums.. I also have Live "Four Songs" which is great, too.. and some mp3's from back when Live was Public Affection.. it's kind of funny, get Morning Humor, a pretty good song.. strangely poppy, though.

As a side note, I should point out that one of my friends downloaded that song after hearing about who they were and read it as "Morning Hummer."

Throwing Copper is amazing, though.

Live are AMAZING live. (My parents have a field day with this one. "so, how about Studio, are they good live as well, or only on the albums, hahaha") I got to see them at a festival with OLP. Live aren't in my top 5 favorite bands, but they are two or three on my scale of live bands.

I didn't really like V either. I'm kinda' thinking about giving it another try though, since you're all so adamant about it being good.

Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi are good all the way through for me. I'm kinda' picky about The Distance to here and Mental Jewelry. Good Pain is a really great song.

Mental Jewelry is an AWESOME album if you like acoustic. (I do.)

Throwing Copper doesn't have a bad track... one of my favorites is "The Dam at Otter Creek" but I didn't see if anyone mentioned that one yet.

It's just my opinion, but I do feel that V is sorely lacking. Start with the lyrics, for example. Both OLP and Live had severe lyrical decline on their 5th albums, if you ask me, Live's was much worse. The next thing that bothered me was Ed's vocals. Ed on his earlier albums, used a deeper voice, and put more passion into his vocals. On V, he whines through most of the songs, and, to me, it really doesn't sound very good. If he wants to have whiny vocals, he needs to sound like Raine. Otherwise, it doesn't cut it. Another problem I have with the album is the much poppier sound. Michael Railo (formerly of association with N'Sync) co-produced and played keyboards on the album, and I think his roots show. Too much bad synthesizers! In conclusion, most of the songs have bad vocals, bad lyrics, and they just don't hit me the right way. Both Live and OLP made similar downward strides with their 5th albums. Except, for me at least, OLP stayed good and Live didn't. I hope this is enough to explain my dislike for V.

It doesn't sound poppy at all to me.. I'll admit that it sounds a little less experimental, and it is very similar to Gravity.. but I think Live pulled it off, and OLP did, too.. but not as well.

So I basically agree with your dichotomy between the two bands' fifth album, but disagree on which is better.

Not all of it sounds poppy. But I think a lot of it does. Take Deep Enough, for example. It's a fairly good song, but I think it is fairly poppy. It sounds like something you could play in a dance club, which, to me, is not a good thing.
