I can love only one Seattle band, and it is Alice In Chains...rest in piece Layne
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Before he died, at the show I went to, Cantrell played No Excuses and Man in the Box, it was great!

Knowing Layne died felt like having my best friend die. I grew up with their music. AIC was all I listened to before I discovered OLP in 95. I cried when I found out he died....which is a rarity for me

was anybody actually surprised when Layne died?

I like Nirvana, but I love Soundgarden. Chris Cornell is a frigging God. I also love Mother Love Bone. rip Andy.

someone sent me this stupid joke not long after Layne died:

Jesus upon meeting Layne Staley:
"Deny your Maker, huh?"

See, I wasn't surprised to know Layne died. But to me it was like having my best friend slowly die from cancer, then just die on me. It really hurt, I idolized the man. The man was underrated because AIC didn't have one massive hit, but maybe 10 hits that everyone from that era knew. Meh, I loved the guy, I wish he would have sobered up and was touring for AIC right now. Cantrell doing AIC songs isn't just the same with that little man.

Kurt Cobain wasn't a lyrical genius, he was a musical genius. His lyrics were blah. He even said so himself. Anyone who openly declares that lyrics are a distant second to the music is probably not much of a lyricist.

wow... generally the exact opposite is the more accepted opinion on Kurt Cobain. I've never heard anyone describe Kurt as a "musical genius".

As good as he made it sound, I don't place the label of "musical genius" on people who use a guitar for bar chord after bar chord with insane distortion.

Lyricaly, he was good. The lyrics may have been "distant", but they still appealed to me.

^^ Me too  Plus he had one of those voices too .. you usually knew without a doubt who it was right away when you heard a song on the radio .. not like today when you're thinking .. hmmm is that Creed or Nickleback or Puddle of Mud .. they all sound the same :freak:

I'm pretty sure I can tell the difference between Creed and Nickelback.

I really really like Nirvana... I really didn't know much of anything about them or their music until this year, when I met a total Nirvana freak. I started listening to it, and I really really like it. Good music!!
