For those of you who live in the US or Canada, can you tell me wether Starbucks stores provide free or paid wi-fi service?

I came across this page:

So that got a little confusing...

I think that page is correct -- you can't expect to just walk in to use the Internet.

I work at Starbucks, you need a registered Starbucks card with at least $5 on it and you'll get 2 hours of access for free everyday.

you should be able to find a ton of local coffee shops that offer free wifi.

yeah, i'd steer clear of starbucks unless you're in a rush and in no mood to search for a decent independent cafe.

Your hotel might very well have complimentary wifi access, as well. Most do these days.

supposedly one can hack a WEP secured wifi network in 5 mins if the amount of traffic is high enough.. theres even a youtube vid on how exactly to do it
i havent tried at all since the usb port on my old laptop died (and the pcmcia based wifi card couldnt pick up shit) but its apparently not that hard, having said all that, listen to the rest of em
