Twitter and your local news

Is it just me or is everyones local newscasts jumping on the twitter bandwagon lately?
All 3 of our local TV stations now have some sort of twitter mention in their daily newscasts and on their websites.
Twitter is nice I supose. The closest I get to it is my updates on facebook I guess. But to have people report news via twitter? Or to publish tweets from the nightly news anchor telling me their having a salad in the break room?
Social networking is not news!

Actually, local law enforcement agencies are the current tweeting rage...
Sad. They should focus on wtf is going on. Not tweeting for computer dorks.

It really is getting a bit out of control. I only understand it for some people, but the majority of us just don't lead exciting enough lives to be doing this crap.
I signed up, but only because the twitters I'm following (all music related, of course) were getting too hard to follow otherwise. I don't plan on ever actually tweeting.

So, I like I said, I signed up for Twitter like 3 days ago... and I already have 2 followers.
One's Monkey, no idea how he found me so fast.
But the other... actually there were two others, but one must've gotten rid of me already... Twitter burn? But anyway, the others, I have no idea who they are or why they feel the need to follow me. I'm guessing Twitter is a lot like MySpace? "Let's look popular and follow as many people as possible?" Even though it just makes you a complete lameoid loser moron?
