Busking For Change
War Child Canada is pleased to announce that on Thursday October 2, 2008 many of Canada’s finest musicians will take to the streets of Toronto to busk in support of War Child Canada.
Busking For Change was inspired by Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, who spent twelve hours busking for War Child Canada on the streets of Toronto last October. While publicising his solo album, The Hunter’s Lullaby, and filming the music video for the album’s first single, Raine raised an astonishing $22,000 for War Child Canada’s School Rehabilitation and Revitalization Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He personally topped up enough to build what is now called the Abala School.
Beginning at 8:00 am until 8:00 pm on October 2nd, celebrated Canadian artists will follow Raine’s lead and will scatter across the city performing on major street corners, in parks and in building atriums. These amazing artists will be on a mission to inspire people to donate generously to War Child Canada, through donations collected at each site, as well as online donations, which can be made HERE. All proceeds will help to provide urgently needed assistance to children around the world whose lives have been affected by war.
On the same day students from across Canada will be busking at their schools and in their communities to support the cause. Whether you’re an experienced performer or an enthusiastic amateur, anyone can get involved. Register your school’s event today and start raising online donations. Visit
www.warchild.ca/buskingforchange
War Child Canada is confident that this will be a great day of music but we need your help. Please support this initiative by donating generously.

WAR CHILD CANADA ANNOUNCE BUSKING FOR CHANGE ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2ND, 2008
CANADIAN MUSICIANS TO BUSK ON THE STREETS OF TORONTO FOR WAR CHILD CANADA
For immediate release:
War Child Canada is excited to announce Busking For Change, a day of great music on the streets of Toronto, taking place on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008. Many of Canada’s celebrated musicians, including Our Lady Peace, James Black and Rick Jackett of Finger Eleven, Tomi Swick, Neverending White Lights, Dave Bidini, The Waking Eyes, and Brian Melo, will be scattered throughout the city busking for change in support of War Child Canada, an internationally recognized, award-winning charity that provides humanitarian assistance to war-affected children in some of the most devastated regions of the world.
Busking For Change was inspired by Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, who spent twelve hours busking for War Child Canada on Toronto streets last October. While publicizing his solo album, The Hunter’s Lullaby and filming the music video for the album’s first single, Raine raised an astonishing $22,000 for War Child Canada’s School Rehabilitation and Revitalization project in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Busking for Change will take place between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm on Thursday October 2nd with numerous artists performing on major street corners, in parks and in building atriums. A full list of participating musicians and locations will be released on October 1st, 2008. Students from across Canada will also busk for change at their schools and in their communities to support the cause.
War Child is an award-winning charity which provides opportunities and long term solutions for war-affected children, focusing on education, strengthening children's rights, reducing poverty and fostering self reliance. War Child Canada currently provides support to communities in Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan (including Darfur and southern Sudan), Uganda, Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Sri Lanka and Georgia. Working closely with the music industry, War Child provides awareness, support and action for children’s rights everywhere.

I highly doubt they will play all day. I bet it will be various artists at an hour apiece. Heck if they were playing all day I would definitely follow them around.

I dunno... Raine did it for 12 hours last time.
When I read it, I assumed it meant the whole city'll just be saturated with buskers for War Child all day long. Which is freaking awesome.

I'm gonna go busk for Warchild.
Except I'm going to use the money I earned for evil and dastardly deeds!

um, you guys are missing the point, he said dastardly so clearly it's a great project.

you have a point Landog. Had he said reprehensible, shameful or immoral, instead of dastardly it would have been a different situation indeed.
I am not a betting man, but if i were, I would say that it is highly unlikely that 10 bands will donate 10 hours in the rain and cold to busk. That was part of what was so admirable about last year, it was fricken cold, like fingers freezing cold. Raine had liquid-boogies-dripping-as-he-played-cold, it was a good thing he had that bushy beard to keep him warm. I am not sure of the dedication of other musicians that will make them persevere. I am not even sure that Steve (even with his MIchigan blood) has the fortitude to withstand 10 hours of wind and cold.
