Midi files? (Help)

Does anybody know about making midi files? Are there MS XP supported programs out there that can assist in ripping music into midi files?

My cell phone bit the crapper; so I'm reactivating my old phone that has a composer in it, so now I have to deal with that for a while.

Any help would be appreciated. In the meantime.....I'm simply looking for midi files, and then linking them into the Coding Workshop Ringtone Converter.

I'm trying my damndest to find "Breaking Benjamin" and "Flyleaf" midi files.

Thanks all.
Neil

I don't know of any programs that can take other sound files and turn them into midi... and without some very very sophisticated programming the results would probably be so awful you wouldn't want to listen to it.

If you're very familiar with a song or have sheet music to it, you could create your own midi of it using a program such as ummm . . .

Actually scratch that first part, while trying to find the name of the program I've used in the past to create midis, I found a couple "music recognition" programs here that will make midis out of regular audio files:

I think my warning that the results may be awful should still be noted though. :D

Josh....I'm willing to give a shot.

You are the man; thanks so much.

Well, if I had any type of talent I would attempt to just make my own. But I'm too dense.

All I want are a couple of them off of a couple of Flyleaf songs. I really want a Flyleaf ringtone on this old ass phone.

No problem! Let me know how well the music recognition software stuff works at turning songs into midis for you.

i believe that praat can do it but i havent played with it in a long time. It is software created for sound studies in Psychology.
what about soundforge will that do it? of course i could be off my rocker on this one

I don't use soundforge but I'd be surprised if it can do very much with midis, it's more of an audio editing program and midis are more for manipulating audio samples in a style similar to composing or writing sheet music.

So far.....it sounds like it could work okay on a couple of tracks.

However, I need to find the crack to get the registered version; in order to actually save the file as a MIDI, and use it.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

I am thinking about bootlegging them in April when they play in Knoxville. Have you seen them live and are they worth a crap?

I haven't seen them, live, in person.....I have heard live tracks though; and I was impressed. I think they're a kick ass unit.

If you bootleg them.....I will send a sweet hooker down to service you.

I am slightly jealous that you may get to see them; cuz I do wanna see them live.
