umm, yeah.
if you subtract one four digit number from another four digit number with all the same digits, you'll get a number composed of one of a limited set of digits. Since you can't choose 0, you have to put 0 in your response, so it knows if you got a combination of digits with 0 in it. It then uses the other numbers you give to determine which unique set of digits you came up with. It then gives you the one number from that combo of digits that is missing from your answer.
same deal with 3 digits. it uses the numbers you give to determine which possible combination of digits you received, then gives you the one digit from that combo that you didn't give.

He got mine wrong.
I picked the number 1112.
I then swapped the 1st and 3rd digit, to get the number 1112.
Subtracting gave me 0.
Excluding 0, there were no digits to circle. So I couldn't circle anything.
I then typed in 0, since that is the only number and it is not circled.
He then said I picked 9.

Was I supposed to change it to a unique number or something?
