No Class Tomorrow

Post by bovine »

Well, 2 classes actually, but I usually have 3 on Thursdays. The last time I had the cancelled class, my teacher was like "since it's a national holiday on thursday, I'm cancelling class." It took us students a few seconds to realize that thursday was 4/20 and then we all laughed. But he was like "no, I'm serious...it's a national holiday, so no class." I'm about 99% sure he was serious. If he wasn't, it'll be just him tomorrow :P

It's just coincidence that oil men will wage war in an oil rich land
And this one goes out to my man taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
Then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam...

Can someone PLEASE explain this 4/20 thing to me. I know it has something to do with drugs. But other than that it makes no sense at all.

Thank you
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

I believe that 420 is some type of police code. I'm not sure if it's specifically for pot or if it's drugs in general or what, but the cop would get on the police radio and say something like "We've got a 420 at 3rd and Chestnut".

"Accepted origin

* Snopes.com, High Times magazine, The Marijuana-Logues, and The Straight Dope claim that in the early 1970s, a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California used to meet every day after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana at the water tower. One piece of evidence supporting an origin of the term from the time 4:20 is the fact that the number is always said "four twenty". This theory is also the most cited, and the most widely-accepted."

also: "Refuted urban legends: 420 is a police code for a drug bust or for "marijuana smoking in progress," or that 4:20 is or was the shift change for the police. However, there is no 420 police code."

So that's not really where it came from? Wierd, that's the only story I've ever heard and I've heard it from tons of people. Well, thanks for the info!

this explanation of the origin of 4/20 is the one that i know of... and i'm pretty sure that's it cause that's what the pot kids told me?

its basically a "international smoke pot day".
