My Trip - Help point out cool stuff to me...

I know I don't really come around here anymore (but I do have the odd ability to appear when my name is mentionned as some of you have noticed) but I would like some imput from you guys.

My girlfriend and I have been planning a trip to Europe for the last year and it will finally be coming to fruition when we leave on May 2nd for London. Neither of us have been overseas but so far I think we've done a really good job of planning and re-planning and then modifying those plans. From the initial idea of what the trip would look like, to what it looks like now is like night and day.

We will be in Europe for 2 weeks.
London - 5 nights
Edinburgh - 3 nights
Liverpool - 2 nights
Paris - 4 nights

In the next few weeks we're going to create our itinerary of what we're going to do each day. Obviously we know of the major things to do in these cities so the first person to tell me we should see the Eiffel Tower will be my nomination for who will get banned after the Oskars. What I want you all to help us with is maybe little things in these cities that we should try to check out (if we can) that might not be major attractions, but things we would enjoy. We're planning on visiting a bunch of museums/monuments/popular places and we're trying to avoid most of the tacky tourist traps (being from near Niagara Falls we know when to spot them).

So if you guys have any advice on places that might be cool, just mention them. To the person who offers the coolest non-popular place to go to, I will be offering Sinead's services for one night (plane ticket and accomodations not included).
thanks
-jim.

Well, if you're interested in history and can tear yourself away from Paris, check out the D-Day beaches in Normandy, Point du Hoc in particular.

*waits for Soozy to arrive*

But I'll tell you what I enjoyed the most in London. Umm. Actually that's really hard because I enjoyed everything we did. Haha.

Haha, I've already been talking to Jim about this on MSN. I shall try to think of some cool and unusual stuff.

I think you should take a picture of just your heads at the Eiffel Tower.

And look like you're not American tourists by going everywhere on Segways.

I don't know how that works though, I think it just makes you look lazy and rich and American.

John: My girlfriend loves history stuff, so I think if have enough money by the end of the trip we will take a day trip from Paris up to the channal. The problem is it's a 50$ train ride, and after 2 weeks in some of the most expensive places in Europe, we might not have the money available to go. But it is definitely a possibility if we can manage it.

Soozy: I'll pick your brain when we come up with our dinner arrangements.

Josh: umm... I think the plan is to go up the tower, as much fun as standing in front of it is I don't know if we'll get the same kind of effect. As for segways...

Maria: The trip is already set on these locations with everything booked. Ireland was part of our initial plan but the ferry was rather expensive. In the future we'd like to spend a whole week in Ireland so we can enjoy it more.

We are making a daytrip up to St Andrews while we're in Edinburgh. I want to see the golf course and the castle/church, so definitely anything within an hour or two of the 4 main cities we're visiting is a possibility if we have the time and cash.

Be back in time for dinner. We're having pot roast tonight.

I could nominate you for the "Fuck this, I'm leaving" award.

But since that was such a lame attempt at gaining a nomination, I think I'll nominate you for "most likely to be banned" instead...

ya there's no point nominating Josh since he won't win. However, I will keep my promise that the winner of best solution still gets a no-expenses paid trip for a night with Sinead.

Thanks, ever so much. I bet Gail wins since she's travelled a lot and knows the ins and outs of most cities

Yeah, but last time she was in Europe she did nothing other than stalk OLP.

I'd recommend going up the Eiffel Tower at night - everything looks so pretty.

That's a good point, I bet Gail would be able to tell me if any good bands are in these cities when I'm there. How awesome would that be to see like some Canadian band over in England and be like "ya we came all the way here to see you guys" :D

Ya Gail is a wealth of knowledge hey? She's great with dates and such. She's an integral member!

In other news, the tower sometimes sways and its FREAKY.
