I can't believe they have Radiohead in there. I thought it was a joke site to begin with, but it seems not ...

My friends parents used to be like that. A few years back she was listening to Evanescence and asked them what a Tourniquet was, and they flipped out and went through her cds and forbid her from listening to certain songs, or watching Much Music.

I'm glad my parents were never like that.

That website made me really mad. Just think of how much time those idiots are spending on their MAN group. If they had spent that much time with their kids, they'd probably already have solved their problem. Parents think they can help their kids by participating in these organizations and wasting time on them, when really, if they just spent more time with their children to try and understand them and build a better relationship with them, I'm sure it would be a lot easier to fix their problem.

Obviously, if kids are listening to that disgusting music, it's probably because they have problems at home. It's the parent's responsibility to make a suitable environment for the kids to grow up in (and if the kids managed to smuggle CDs like that into their homes without their parents knowing for so long, you know there's already something wrong because it's a clear indication of the lack of communication between child and parent). In the stories of the parents who found these CDs in their children's rooms, they say they're "seriously considering professional help", when the problem clearly lies with the parents. It's probably the parent's fault, so deal with it yourself. Stop trying to pass the blame to someone else.

Lastly, if they used proper grammar and spelling on their website, it would probably give them a lot more credibility.

I think what these mothers need are a few good slaps to the face and a reality check.

It's not that hard to hide a cd if you need too. Unless the parents are the invadeasmuchprivacyaspossible type, in which case thats part of the problem.

My cousin thinks that music with terrible lyrics that you can't actually here sounds cool. I think my uncle should send him to military school.

hmmm...

a parent wrote:Although, I am confused by your inclusion of Radiohead on the site. I am actually a fan. Or is this another band of the same name? Thanks ladies for making this site. We need to collect as much information as we can about this. In this day and age of computers and instant access to all media by anyone. We really need to take the time to look at what our children are listening to, watching, and reading on the web.

another part of the site wrote:Radiohead- a lot of people keep asking why i included them into this list, but they are what i consider a 'gateway band', my son was started out by listening to Radiohead. By presenting a plastic commercialized pop product this act has effortlessly slipped under the radar of a lot of watchdog groups. They use alot electronic noise and noise imagery within compositions and it may on the surface seem harmless but once our kids get hooked on dissonance they will only go further down the road for a bigger kick. If your child only has pop records and a Radiohead record, it might not be too late to save them.... please remove Radiohead CDs from their music collection.

okay, what the hell is wrong with dissonance? :wtf: leaving rock aside, the greatest classical composers have used it (beethoven when he was about to die) as well as the greatest modern composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. excessively melodic music has zero creativity. i bet some of these mothers have a weakness for their classical stuff--i want to eat their eyes. this site makes no sense.

i've only even heard of two bands on that site, radiohead and sonic youth... most of those other band names seem to be pointing at extremely heavy death or industrial metal...

im not sure exactly how you can compare a band such as Radiohead or Sonic Youth to bands with names such as :

BRIGHTER DEATH NOW
MACRO-NYMPHA
BLOODY MINDED
TAINT
SKIN CRIME

oh , i see they include andrew W.K. on the list, so i've heard of 3 now.

i suppose its understandable to not want your kids to listen to that kind of music.

from the site : By presenting a plastic commercialized pop product this act has effortlessly slipped under the radar of a lot of watchdog groups.

a plastic commercialized pop product?? first of all, radiohead isnt a pop groupd. second of all, they are definitely not commercialized, if anything they are very much against commercialization. these women need to do some damn research before they start including bands on their lists. and what "watchdog" groups are they refering too?

I'm listening to Nine Inch Nails right now...

God is dead
And no one cares
If there is a hell
I'll see you there

I wonder if that would make the short list

I wanna fuck you like an animal
i wanna feel you from the inside
i wanna fuck you like an animal

Radiohead is a gateway fruit! They're like LSD ... on acid!

I think they're probably misusing or misunderstanding the word "dissonance". However, in some cases excessive use of dissonance (or accidental dissonance ) can be unappealing.

But ... it's not going to turn you into a psychotic drug-abusing serial killer.

no????!?????

oh.

I guess I'll stop listening to Radiohead then.

To be honest, it was Raffi that made me a psychotic drug-abusing serial killer.

In.. umm... a time era. (medieval? I don't remember) a brilliant violin composer was arrested for using too many tri-tones in his music. It was thought it was a sign of the devil.
