Gordon Downie is more of a poet than a vocalist. All in all I don't mind them, and I respect them. I like a couple of their singles, but I've never gotten into them.

I like the hip. They are overrated yes, but so is Pink Floyd in my opinion. I still like them both though.

Don't you dare compare Pink Floyd to the Tragically Hip!

Pink Floyd are more popular and have been around longer! Clearly no one's personal music preferance could ever include/exclude/make a preferance between/have an equal opinion of the two bands!

just because they've been around longer doesn't mean Pink Floyd isn't overrated to some degree...

You're right The Tragically Hip are much better than Pink Floyd.

I saw them in concert. Some songs were fun, but it wasn't overly impressive. I ended up leaving because it was a really bad crowd.

i think pink floyd is overrated...they were just a bunch of guys hopped up on a lot of drugs, and the music they made reflects that...
i think gord downie is on drugs sometimes too, the way he acts on stage, or just trying to figure out what the hell he is singing about, cause his lyrics make no sense most of the time
but i take the hip over floyd any day of the week

I hate you all...except for those of you who stood up for Pink Floyd. You don't merit my hate.

It's 'The Tragically Hip' not 'Tragically Hip':P
And man, the Hip rule. They are one of my favourite bands. They are not overrated at all considering they are barely known outside Canada.

...i think a depreciation thread is going a bit far.
i'm a huge fan of the hip, and i find it hard to believe that they earned a depreciation thread. yes, some of their stuff isn't wonderful. a lot of it is hard to like. but there are also a lot of gems in their collection. wheat kings, scared, bob caygeon, ahead by a century, fiddler's green...those are all wonderful songs.
i understand that not everyone has the same musical tastes, and you may not like any of the hip's songs. i'm also not completely sure if this thread was serious, or just a joke.
i needed to get my two cents in here, as the hip are an iconic band in canadian music, and a lot of people who are fans of olp and other canadian bands are also fans of the hip. a depreciation thread for a canadian band on the message board of a fellow canadian band just doesn't seem right. we should be appreciating canadian talent, not shooting it down.
also, just to add...the hip are....interesting live. gord downie is one of those performers who gets completely lost within the music, and ends up doing very odd things. he's also known to be a genius of a song writer. true, a lot of songs don't make sense, but i've spent time reading lyrics, and there's brilliance in them.
ok. i'm done.
