I've heard conflicting reports. Some say it's amazing, other say the storyline is crap.

The storyline isn't crap. The problem with the storyline is that most audience members who are fans of the series and know the plots of the other movies will already have a pretty good idea of most of this movie's plot. I would've tried to put less of an emphasis on using the plot of the 3rd movie to set up everything for the second half of the series. I never really wanted to see Anakin become Darth Vader. I would've liked it if people who hadn't seen any of the movies before could watch the whole thing episodes 1 - 6 and still be as surprised as Luke is when he has his battle/conversation with Darth Vader in Cloud City. I would've liked it if the third movie just left him for dead, and treated Anakin/Darth Vader like Senator Palpatine/Darth Sidious was treated in the first movie . . . the viewers who have seen the old trilogy will know that they're the same person, but people who are new to the movies would not. Of course then they would've had to find a reason for Obi-Wan to fight Anakin.
But it is good.

Yeah, but since episode 4-6 are older, most people who aren't huge Star Wars fans would normally be told to watch those ones first. Anyone who's going to watch them in order from 1-6 will already have some Star Wars knowledge and that's why they were made this way.

did they give the dude who is anakin some goddamn acting lessons?
seriously, he was terrible in attack of the clones and i only saw like 20 minutes of it.

Yeah he was really whiney in the 2nd one, but he's actually pretty good in this one! However I wouldn't really complain about his acting in the second one, Mark Hamill was really bad too...
Funny fact for anyone who knows the Star Wars Universe:
In episode 2, Jar Jar Binks, standing in for Senator Amidala, puts forth the motion that gives Palpatine supreme powers. This means that Jar Jar, the most hated character in the Star Wars canon, is indirectly responsible for the fall of the Old Republic and the near-annihilation of the Jedi order.

haha, i was just thinking on the way home from watching the movie, that i should create a 'sweeks unite!' thread or something.

.
but i loved this movie. it was quite depressing, in my humble opinion. i guess that refers more to the heatbreaking subplot with anakin and padme,
uhh, what else can i say, other than it was surprisingly well done, compared to episodes I and II? i thought it was awesome.

I wish that Jar Jar would be violently murdered.

I disagree. That is WHY I was excited. I wanted to see how Aniken became Darth and how it all evolved.
I think this one was even better than 4-6. And yes, Mark Hamill sucks at acting. In six I wanted to cut my arm off it was so bad. Like father like son?
I need to go see it again.

did anyone else think of a certain president's speech from about 2 years ago when vader said "you are either with me, or my enemy?"
just curious.

I just think it's annoying that kids who are too young/adults who aren't hip enough to have seen the other movies will have to watch episodes 4-6 first. I would've been more impressed if they had done something that would preserve/positively alter the experience of watching them all in order from 1 to 6 for someone with no previous Star Wars knowledge.
I know if I got to episode 4 and didn't know from episode 3 that Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader, but I did know from episode 3 that Obi-Wan owned Anakin and left him charred and dying, I may be intrigued when Obi-Wan tells Luke that Darth Vader killed Anakin, because clearly if anyone killed Anakin it was Obi-Wan.
Also now those poor kids are gonna just be grossed out when Luke wants to get with his sister.
