Most likely these kids listened to pop punk a few years back, but since the hardcore trend is reaching unprecedented levels of retardation a large crowd decided to jump on the bandwagon and emulate their local tough guy.
I’ve seen kids that wear camo shorts everyday that act like they’ve been oppressed or have struggled throughout their life.

is it just me, or could that one bass part in 'not enough' (more so the live cd version) qualify as a breakdown?

I don't think so, because it's bass. I mean, bassists generally play one note at a time. You can't really play chords on bass. (You can to an extent, but they generally suck). But maybe the guitar to that part??
