" WASHINGTON -- The recording industry intends to sue hundreds of college students accused of illegally distributing music and movies across Internet2, the super-fast computer network connecting leading universities for researching the next generation of the Internet, industry officials said Tuesday."

This will probably get spammed like all threads on here do, but My question to you guys is. Do you think if the Recording Industry keeps doing this to Universities and such. Do you think we will be seeing people boycott of buying cds, and things, and the people who are boycotting will just listen to the radio? I think we will see that if the recording industry keeps doing this. What do you guys think?

Considering the radio is just as corrupt as anything else, it's tough to turn to that for music.
Something needs to happen, seriously. This is getting ridiculous.

We won't see this, because too many of us already boycott radio.
However, if I see them going after websites or individuals who share live recordings rather than commercially available stuff, I can tell you that I am not going to ever buy another new CD.

Yeah, I really do think if the Recording Industry is just going to keep doing this over and over again (sueing people) it is going to hurt them. Look at Metallica they were really popular. After they shut down Napster it really hurt them, because no one liked them after they shut down the greatest music program that ever live in my opinion.

if anyone's boycotting, they should do so against the companies filing lawsuits, not against cd buying in general.
there are a lot of good labels out there who could care less about downloading, and i'd hate to see smaller labels dropping acts because of shit like that.

Good point. I would only boycott companies and labels on this list:

They still have him.
I wish they had just gone down gracefully and not gone commercial. My Napster shirt is incredibly uncool now thanks to it.

You have to give Napster credit for starting it all. They revolutionized the internet and the music industry.

I knew someone would say that. It's true, but yet Soulseek still kicks Napster's ass. In fact, Soulseek kicks the collective ass of all the other file sharing programs (including bit torrent) combined. A SWIFT KICK.
