Should I attempt to take apart my Playstation 2 and try to fix it? Or is that just an accident waiting to happen? :clumsy: :uh:

Why not just go buy a used one at the used CD/game store for like 30$. I nearly bought a playstation today for 25 and that included two controllers. It worked perfectly fine as well. Instead I bought a Super nintendo for my gf for her b-day. For some reason that, 2 controllers and 3 games came to like 75$. Super nintendo's are hot commodities nowadays.

go for it! most of the time problems with machines and stuff can be solved that way, instead of spending money. plus it's fun to play around in there :D just make sure you know where everything goes before you take it out, and if it still doesn't work after you try to fix it, then take it to get repaired or something.

It takes two and half minutes to load a game.

Maybe you just need to run a lens cleaner disc on it? Also if it has any warranty on it, you'll promptly void it by opening it up.
