Nightwish appreciation thread

Ripped straight from Wikipedia

Nightwish is a Finnish goth/pop metal band, formed in 1996. While the songs are mostly written by the band's keyboard player, Tuomas Holopainen, their success is also widely attributed to the vocals. These are performed by Tarja Turunen, who has studied classical singing in the Finnish Sibelius Academy, and currently studies opera singing in Germany. In recent songs, Marco Hietala, the bass player, has started to sing as well.

The musical style of Nightwish has been described as pop metal epic metal, power metal, opera metal, symphonic metal, and goth metal, amongst others. Tuomas Holopainen once described their music as "melodic heavy metal with a female voice". However, the commercial success of Nightwish and their numerous media appearances have labelled them more as pop metal by power metal elitists.

-------------------------------------------------

The band has a number of album releases but by far their most well known is their latest album Once, released last year. Were I to describe this band I'd say Evanescence mixed with Metallica. Nikki says Ramstein mixed with Opera. Off their latest album my favourite is Ghost Score Love and Dark Chest of Wonders. I am sharing their entire discography on the hub. Jump on and listen to this amazing (IMHO anyways) band

  No, no... I believe my exact phraseology was "bad dinner theatre opera mixed with Rammstein".

A couple of my friends like Nightwish. Not my cup of tea, but I don't object to listening to them if they happen to have it on.

If you like this kind of music, you might also like some songs by Dutch bands Within Temptation, After Forever, Epica and Autumn.
