They have a lot of 70's era influences when it comes to guitar hooks. While it depends on the album, most of their songs have a dreamy quality with a lot of slide guitar and keyboards. Starflyers lead, Jason Martin has a really tired, worn out vocal sound which really compliments the music well in mind. On top of that I think he's one of my favorite song writers ever. If you want to check them out, i'd recommend listening to anything from Leave Here A Stranger or Old.
