Hey Alex, guess what I just stumbled upon at the book store?

A book called "Chainfire". Written by a fellow you may have heard of. Goes by the name "Goodkind".

That's right! A new Sword of Truth book!

I just hope he keeps up with his semi-annoying reminders of what has happened before, because aside from some of the major themes, I don't remember much of the series. It's been a long time...

I know about Chainfire you fool I just hate the wait for paperback..

Nope, hardcover.

Are you waiting because of the price? Or just a general hate for hardcover? Because it's 30% off at Chapters (plus an extra 10% with one of those cards). Mine came to like $26 after the full 40% off.

Both.. I really can't stand reading hardcover, mostly, though. They're so large and clumsy.
My mom bought me Faith of the Fallen in hardcover as a surprise and she was so proud of herself and i was like "....thanks! .... "

I actually enjoy hardcover, as long as the book is long enough to make it worthwhile. A really thick softcover book can be awkward if a cheap spine is used (which is often the case).

True... I bought Stone of Tears second hand and it's the fattest mofo ever. It's in pieces.

I'm really liking Chainfire so far. It starts off great - both in terms of plotline and reminders. Goodkind's really perfected sneaking little hints to help remember everything that has happened before. The most subtle phrase will suddenly bring back a wave of realization. I completely forgot how good this whole series has been. The plot itself is looking really good, too.

I found out that, as well as being the 9th volume of the SoT series, it's also the first novel in what is being called the "Chainfire Trilogy". Once I find out what (a) Chainfire(s) is/are, I give my opinion on a second series coming out of this.

I don't know if you guys knew this or not... but the Chainfire trilogy is the ending to the entire Sword of Truth series. I'm still polishing off Naked Empire.

I'm at a point in Chainfire right now in which my emotions are being played around with to the point that I have to remind myself that I am enjoying it. That is to say, I feel the suffering of character(s) so much that it's painful reading the book. But I find myself feeling guilty for not reading it, because my not reading is slowing the course of the characters lives.

Good reading, my friends.

Although, there are some things that are bothering me.

And the ending could make the novel either amazing or horrible, depending on what said ending turns out to be.

Overall great emotional rollercoaster. Terry has me being certain of one thing happening, but hoping with all my heart that something else will happen.

This whole post has probably been confusing due to the complete lack of details.

Alex, get over your hardcover phobia, dammit!

Damn, this is GOOD!

As one chapter ended, I was actually having trouble breathing, I was in such a panic. I was cursing characters I love, yet doubting myself and considering all angles of a desperately complex situation.

Then, with nothing more than the first line of the next chapter, I gasped with excited glee.

But this joy was only temporary, as it was halted by the realization that if what made me so angry in the preceding chapter continues, that which made me so happy in the next line will have been for nothing.

As my anticipation grew, I was suddenly struck down with dissappointment and crushing depression, and I actually cried out in an agonized "nooooo!". After short speculation, I experienced a kind of dim, confused hope.

I know this seems absurdly vague, but I guarantee that you will know the part I'm talking about when you get to it.

Best of the series. Seriously. (well, that opinion may be heightened slightly by the fact that I just finished it. )


And don't fret, the series isn't over. It's changed in a number of ways, but to say that this is the last of the series is deceiving. It's true that the SoT series as you know it is over (and from what I can tell, that may only be temporary), but the series you know and love is far from over! That makes no sense right now, I know.

Think of it this way... The Sword of Truth phase is over, but it's just part of a much longer series, that is continuing. Same series, new phase. We're in Chainfire now. And I can see a number of ways that could take the series closer to SoT and farther from it.

Incoherent ramblings, I know.

Damn, I can relate SO well right now! HAHA! (Again, that only makes sense if you've read the book. and I have. so it makes sense to me.)

I'm actually shaking with excitement. It's so great.

Best series ever.




Terry Goodkind reminds me of Stephen King in a lot of ways. They both tell amazing stories (Terry's much better than King's by a long shot), but they both have a tin ear for the English language. They'll never be noted as great contributors to literature, but by god Terry Goodkind is making one hell of a contribution to story telling as a whole.
