Screaming isnt an emo trait. There is screaming in emo but sum 41 did not change their to sound like an emo band. Sum 41 and its members are big fans of metal, which is probably where the influence came from. Lastly Sum 41 isnt "Emo."

isn't the music with screaming called Screamo?

either way Emo people look and act way cooler then the music actually is. It's one of those movements where the look and attitude is way better then the actual music. The music it self is almost immature, and no where near as deep or intelligent as people believe

Most emo fans wont claim that the lyrics are deep or intelligent. At least I wont. However they will say that the music really is good at making them feel. There is passion behind the worlds, no matter how whiney they may be. Emo is driven by feeling not politics or intelligent concepts.

Very true, but i think all good music should be. I would consider 80% of my music to fit that description, but it's also not emo. Or perhaps the term Emo has been falsely branded on a certain variety of punk when really it should apply to many genre's. Some music definatly isn't emotional, but i'd say most good music is, whether it be alternative, indie, or rock.

I spose i don't find much commercial pop very moving or sincere, but that's probably why most true music fans don't like. Only people who simply like a good melody or bassline like it.

But isnt a true music fan there for not only the lyrics, but the MUSIC?

No that's what iw as saying aswell. All good music isn't always about the Lyrics, it's about the Emtion behind them, and the music. IME being a perfect example. The lyrics are cool and sometimes awesome, but ussually they're way to weird and cryptic to be the reason why the music is moving. It's Brian's delivery and the stupidly good playing skills of the band. there's some pretty ridiculous lyrics on paper, but Brian can make you tear up about them.

anyways. i just find that most commercial pop doesn't seem sincere and it's retty repetitive therefore i don't get much feeling out of it.

Calculated and perfect vocals, hitting every note, and concentrating on the science of it, as many pop singers do just seems hollow to me, esspecially when they didn't actually write the words.......and sometimes actually arn't even singing.

Music should be an art or an emotional discharge, not a show.

Well, i've never listened to IME ever, so I wouldnt know about its sound. However, I do believe the music can be amazing, lyric-less. Or with stupid ones.

yeah i know. Death From Above have pretty pathetic lyrics, but they got some serious fun agression and spunk.

Same goes for songs like The Music's "The Walls Get Smaller" which doesn't even have singing but totally rocks
