I love each and every one of OLP's songs- old and new! I can't sit here and say that Innocent sucks because of the simplified lyrics- Innocent rocks! Not Afraid rocks! Under Zenith rocks! Car Crash rocks! It angers me to see fans start bashing their 'favourite' band because they want to start to experiment with new things, whether it be a new producer or new simplified lyrics. OLP rocks just as much as they do when they started, I don't care what any of you say! :D

I totally agree with you. I love OLP plain and simple. I support their career-good, bad or indifferent. Some songs I love, some songs I can do with out. For me Gravity was just one piece of work in their careers. I look forward to the new stuff and their future.

Also I am confused here a bit. Where did it say Raine hates the idealogy of America I never read that anywhere. Can someone fill me in please.

I use to say that also, that if you feel OLP aren't the band you once loved why remain a fan. To each's own. I know alot of people are very ynhappy with the new direction the band has taking over the last 1-1/2 year. Like I say LIVE AND LET LIVE> me I support this band. I don;t mind the simple lyrics. I don't mind the complicated lyrics. I still find beauty in the songs. :D

Oh come on, what kind of poll is this? I'm sure if you put a "both" option in there, a lot of people would have clicked that.

They played singles at woodstock...
SETLIST
Naveed
One Man Army
Superman's Dead

Potato Girl

Happiness and the Fish

Starseed

I agree though that it was risky to play half a set of new songs. They did play Not Afraid at the junos which was kinda risky cause they even were announced as playing their hit single "Innocent". Really they haven't had a chance to do that again. How often does a band get to play in front of 200,000 ppl? most bands don't even play to that many ppl in their entire career.[/quote]

i actually was referring to Happiness having no singles yet, infact almost no one had heard anything off happiness

i'll stick beside olp because i still have faith in them, but there's no arguing that Gravity was nowhere near the rest artisically. And maybe that's the difference here, maybe art and origanality means more to some people than others. it broke my heart to see raine is writting songs in 5 minutes. Really to be able to write mindblowing lyrics you need much much more time then that, that is unlesss you are a lyrical genious, and raine himself has admitted taht writing lyrics takehimalot of time......but i guess that was when he was writing origanal lyrics, you know actual poetry, no generic rock and love....

J-Neli wrote:well they could have simply made Clumsy part 2... would we all prefer that they restrict themselves from experimentation? Look at a lot of bands and you'll see huge changes. If you want to see an extreme case look at The Beatles, and they're considered the best band to ever live.

I don't find stripping music down to three instruments and recording it in one or two takes that much of an experiement. To me, all that seems like is the band is just trying to churn music out as fast as possible.

You were much better when you were being olp on naveed. Then when you were trying to be everyone nowadays

I see what you're saying, but i would have to disagree with you. I would classify OLP as being in a category of their own- they aren't trying to copy the style of anyone else- I would say, not just because I am a huge fan of the guys, that they are a very original group. I wouldn't say they were much better on Naveed- they were just as good on Gravity. What fun is it for a band if they keep popping out the same music every two years? Even better, what fun is it for the fans to have the guys put out the same music! You have to let them experiment! Look at 'Not Afraid'- how many of you real OLP fans can say that you don't like that song? Even though it's not yet recorded, I think it's a wicked song! It's OLP at their best. :)

What fun is it for the fans to hear OLP churn out the same music that all the other pop-rock bands put out? Gravity had nothing clever or drawing on it, it was nothing more than a simple pop record that had its one hit, and that was it. I suppose I expect something creative and deep like Happiness or Spiritual Machines was, not stuff that is nothing more than basic lyrics with catchy hooks.

that's just it though, just because they changed their music DOESN'T mean they're evolving or going foreward. Each albumhad it's own charm and unique flavour, Naveed was middle easterny, with alot of guitar rock and epic-like songs. Clumsy, was gritty, angry, angsty and just plain edgy. Hapiness was more lyrical based, with concentration on raines voice and sadness. Spirtual machines was full of effects and hidden gems, alot of layers. Gravity was...................simple....generic rock...easy to understand.....uh can you think of anything about it? and i don't wantto hear guitar driven because despite what Raine says it is NOT guitar driven at all, hell duncan took a more comanding role in that cd to make up for lack of guitar and the bass still wasn't as good as lots of the old stuff. Not to mention they're wasting one of the best drummers in north america, yeah good idea idiot, you have one of the best drummers in NA, but lets tell him to tone it down a bit! yeah innocent was a drumming masterpiece........Jeremey said himself that his favorite song to play is birdman which is much much more complex drumming wise

Yea, I gotta agree ... Jeremy is fucking kickass.
I know someone has said it already, but they did say they were the "new Our Lady Peace" when they were going to release Gravity. But, because their sound varies with each album, we don't really know what to expect with this new one. Who knows, we could like the new, new OLP, permitting thats what they become, or the combination of new/old sound they may come out with.
We'll just jave to wait and see.
And didn't Raine once say they wanted to have a similar sound like "early U2"? Maybe that could give us an idea?

Without you I'm as good as
dead ...

i'm holding out that Gravity was deconstructing of everything, and now they're going to start new again kinda like Naveed, i'm not asking for another naveed, but something out there and origanal like it

Well my post was meant to signify that hopefully Gravity is merely an experimentation... I think a lot of us hope they'll go back to making the quality of music that they were making before Gravity

 it's weird because on this board i cut down olp alot and i'm pretty critical of them, but then on the IME board i defend them against the same accusation i make here

Have you heard Talk is Cheap? How about Not Afraid? No Warning? Those may be some of the most kick ass drums by Jeremy! Especially Talk is Cheap. He goes nuts. Have you seen the recordings of the guys in the studio? I don't think the drums are going to be toned down on the next record as much as Gravity.

Maybe you guys just don't like where music in general is going these days. Each one of OLP's previous albums meshed with the times that they came out. Gravity wasn't the only one.
