I also agree that Christianity gets attacked [oppinionized

] so much because of the exposure, but that doesnt mean most people know the faith. like I said earlier, there are A LOT of misconceptions out there and to better understand what you are stating an oppinion on, it helps to look into it. There's nothing wrong with discussing the religion if it will help you learn and you can keep an open mind, but just attacking with no mind for acceptance isnt the greatest thing.
I don't know whether or not this is directed at me, but I was born and raised a Christian (a Catholic, actually), went to private Catholic school, and have read the Bible more than once. You can disagree with my opinion, but you can't say I'm not educated in what Christianity is "all about". What I meant by mentioning the "godhateswhatever" sites is that those people are just as strong in their beliefs as anyone else. They claim to be the only true Christians, and they do follow Bible teachings. So... who am I supposed to believe when different groups who follow the same book each say that they are the "true believers" and that everyone else is a charlatan? I'd rather not choose sides.
I don't believe in a god for the same reason I don't believe in flying purple unicorns. There's a possibility that each exists, sure, but until I see some evidence of their existence, I'm not going to believe in them.
And as for attacking Christianity over other religions, this is true, but only because, as others said, it is the prominent religion in America. I disagree just as much with the teachings of Islam, Hinduism, and all other theistic religions. I'm not anti-religion, I just want the complete separation of church and state. Religion is such a diverse and sensitive and important and personal subject that it should be completely separeate from state affairs. Promoting one religion over any other (or over non-religion), as the current administration is doing, is very, VERY bad. I'd feel the same way if the state promoted atheism, too. This isn't my crusade against Christianity. This is about freedom of - and from - religion.
That was probably too long-winded, and definitely off-topic.

It wasnt directed just at you. I guess i shouldnt jump to assumptions though, it just seemed with the whole stoning/keeping it private/godhates... that you had some misunderstandings or whatever. But regardless there are a lot of things that a lot of people don't know, or think they know uncorrectly, about Christianity, and every religion for that matter.
thanks for clearing that up.

I do probably misunderstand your religion. That's another part of the problem. Everyone's religion is so personal. What one person might take from a particular Bible passage (as I was taught about the "don't pray in public" passage), another person might interpret differently. Christianity is multifaceted, and takes many forms. So it's difficult to say anything about Christianity that is true for all Christians.
I guess the only thing you can truthfully say for all Christians is that they believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ. The rest is up to interpretation.

I've been taught one of the differences between Catholics/protestants is that Catholics are supposed to have one universal interpretation for the Bible passages, guided by the Holy Spirit and made by the leaders of the church. Protestants can pick out any passage and basically take anything they want out of it.

I think the world is going to hell because there aren't more of me. Or people like me... If they cloned say 6 and a half of me, then the world would be fine.... wait scratch that, the half person wouldn't live long 'cause it would only be like the LEGS or the UPPER body...and I don't like the contrary idea of a "mini-me" type of half person, so let's just round it up to 6 and 5/8ths to be safe.

Aerin, you cannot possibly think the world is going to hell.
you don't belive there is a god, THEREFORE, since there is no god then there is no Devil, and since both these things don't exist then neither do heaven or hell. so, the world cannot go somewhere that in your personal opinion doesn't even exist.
HA!
PS good to be back, i kind of went on a bender.

You're correct of course, but "the world going to hell" is a metaphorical expression I'm fine with using. I doubt even religious folks believe the entire world is actually physically going to hell. I think we just mean the state of the world is spiraling downward into a metaphorical "hell on earth" - getting more and more sucky, if you will.

then you can easily use a different twist of words. as in the world is going to pot, but of course the potheads would get offended. maybe the world is going to shit...there that seems better.
HA!
