These days, people parade around their gay friends like they do their black friends, and all their other "minority" friends to prove how open-minded they are. It's kind of spurious.

But regardless, none of choose what we desire. So it's not a pedophile's fault they desire children. However, children can not and should not consent to sex, and so acting on pedophilic urges is immoral. Acting on homosexual urges is not immoral as long as it's adult and consensual, just as acting on heterosexual urges is not immoral as long as it's adult and consensual.

No problem with it. It should be legalized so that safeguards may be placed on it.

you know what, aerin, sometimes people call it SEXUAL PREFERNCE. i wasn't being "ignorant"

but how do you know if it's a choice or not? i'm not homosexual, i can't tell if it is or isn't. but it could be.

who knows why men sleep with men? not me! all i know is they do, and if they want to, go for it. you make it sound like a compulsion. sheesh.

By the way, I don't think preference necessarily equals free choice. I prefer strawberry over chocolate ice cream, meaning if there's a choice, I will choose strawberry. However, that doesn't mean I chose to like strawberry better, I just do. It's just part of who I am, and I couldn't train myself to prefer chocolate. I think it's the same with sexuality.

Therefore, I have no problem with the phrase "sexual preference".

really though think about it, do you think there's any person out there that like, hmmm i'm going to start having sex with men! even though they know everyone will shun and hate them for it? Really, if they liked having sex with women that what they would do, i know great gay guy at school and i don't think he chose anything, people always treat him like shit, but he's actually a really funny cool guy, and i'm sure he would rather be popular then the way he is

alex - perhaps, but my spirituality and my politics remain in strictly seperate domains. God has absolutely no place in any political discussion whatsoever. so while on the spiritual side, I may abide by the laws of God, as far as the physical side goes, i abide by the laws of chris. the way i see it, God is the one who made me, so only He can tell me what to do.

and clumsyboy, re: your question

i won't answer it because i don't believe in all that biblical bullshit. you're preaching to the choir in my case. as far as i'm concerned, people can go ahead and do what they want, which i should think would be obvious by now.

yes, doug, your attack should be aimed at me. i'm positive my brother would choose to like girls over guys if he could, but like aerin said, you cant force yourself to like something. people don't become gay because they say "oh, girls whine too much, so i'll ilke guys instead" or that they want to stand out from the crowd. in our society, gay people are seen as abnormal and strange, hence the term "queer". how come most religious guys don't have a problem with lipstick (non-butch) lesbians? because sexual thoughts come before religion. i just think those same guys who are considered homophobes are just shitting their pants because they have something to hide.

maybe i was just overreacting, i thought somebody defined preference and called my use of it ignorance in action.

that kind of pissed me off a bit.

i'm not making the argument that you can force yourself to like women or men. i'm just one of those people whose not so sure about the existence of a gay gene, i think it's just one of those things like whether you eat chocolate or vanilla ice cream. there's nothing in our genes about that, it's just a "preference".

I think I missed something somewhere here.

And you still haven't responded to this:
I don't see how "choose me or burn in hell for all of time" is any different than "follow my laws or get arrested." If anything, I'd actually say the first one is much much worse, what with the eternal consequences.
You can't go around building a better world for people. Only people can build a better world for people. Otherwise it's just a cage.

You can't choose your desires, but you can choose whether or not to act on those desires.

I'm not saying it is wrong for them to act on those desires, but I will leave you with these questions.

Is it wrong for necrophiliacs to act on their desires?
Is it wrong for beastialitists to act on their desires?
Is it wrong for NAMBLA members to act on their desires?
