i didn't mean steve couldn't do it, read the first part of my post, but i just meant that everyone worships the ground he walks on for some solo's and remixes he's done, ppl should like you said wait till he has a studio album under his belt first. And as for Duncan, i've stuck up for Chris on serveral occaisions sure like Mike he no longer fits into OLP anymore, but he did create some powerfull bass on Naveed, i just think both Mike and Chris should be respected for what they brought to the band, sure they no longer fit and they may have been replaced by someone better but it still doesn't lesson the work they did

Consciously or unconsciously, the bassist never gets much respect from most people. Bass lines don't usually have a dominant role in rock music, so they're kind of pushed to the background.

If Chris wrote the bass line for Naveed, though...

i'm with endy on this one. obviously emtee wanted out as bad as the rest of the band wanted him out. that's fine.

but when mike took his parting shots he was classy about it. he said it was a great record and that they were a great band.

maida is a dick. he doesn't need to go into the media and dis the man's guitar playing. mike's guitar playing skill had nothing to do with why he left the band and anyone who believes that is naive. it's bad enough that i have to stomach gravity, i don't need the singer of my once favorite band disrespecting mike on top of it.

mike turner left because he had higher musical ambitions then the rest of our lady peace. they wanted to make a stripped down rock record which incidently bears a striking resembelance to many top selling stripped down rock records.

turner didn't. simple as that.

as far as accusations of living in the past (something Rich and Shelley accused a reviewer who didn't like Gravity of, as well, I think).. we need to stop clinging to Our Lady Peace as the great band they once were, when Gravity is clearly beneath what they've done in the past.

or maybe, what Mike has done in the past.

here's the deal:

Mike Turner did amazing things with the guitar and so does Steve Mazur.
Mike is a little more mellow on stage whereas Steve is very charismatic.
They are two different ppl with great talent....different talent.....but still great in their own ways.

Raine, Duncan, and Jeremy all like the idea of Bob Rock telling them to cut out all the layers and capture what they do best....play live.....so they wanted to do a stripped down record that sounds like it would live without all the crap in the background. Mike was on the other side of the fence and was more of an ambient guitar player who enjoyed the layers of music. When they realized that they were going in different directions musically, they had to move on....its simple.

And Mike was the best one in terms of talking to fans after shows and now Steve is probably even better.....probably because he is a newbie to the whole rock star thing.....but they are both awesome.

It was a mutual decision and the band says they are happier and more comfortable on stage and thats best for them and the fans.....because now they get to make great music for us to listen to for a long time.

Lets all just get along and move on with the new OLP!!!!
Is there something good, something more?
Is there anything worth dying for?

Yeah, I'm not really sure the word charisma describes Steve. Likable, definitely, in that, "Wow, what a geek," kind of way. He's an excellent hard rock guitarist and all, and I can agree with Mike being more mellow on stage, because he's working on guitar parts that are a little more cerebral.

Steve is exciting, sure, but Mike is mindblowing.

No kidding. If he was there, the concert would have been too great, and I would have to kill myself when it ended.

When they come out with their next album and it sucks ass, then you can make that comment, but until then..

I can see where you're coming from, but at least give them a chance.

Yeah, I guess I'm being hard on them because it's not like Gravity doesn't have potential, they're good songs that were willfully stripped to their boring essentials and that irritates me.

I think Steve is an excellent guitar player. In fact, I think he's better than Mike, BUT I love Mike to death. At every show I went to I'd get their early enough just so I can stand in front of him. He would always smile and be so into the crowd. I loved him for that. Steve, on the other hand, just looks at his guitar. I just prefer someone more into the crowd...making the show more intimate.

I miss Jamie to death too. He made the craziest faces during the show.
But I must say Mike E. is my hero :)

I have mixed feelings about Raine, and it's NOT because of that article.

edit: oops... I should read over my posts before i submit them
