I was much less sure about this depiction of the Joker before seeing the trailer. But holy shit, Ledger and Nolan have really created something amazing here.

I was the same way. I wanted to see a tall lanky Joker, but I wasn't overly anti-ledger when I found out way back when that he'd be starring. I just didn't think he was right for the role until I saw the trailer and some earlier photos.

He's perfect for it. I turned to the person next to him and said, "Who is that." I'm so excited!!!

Actor Heath Ledger was found dead today in a Broome Street apartment, apparently from a drug overdose, PageSix.com has learned exclusively. Heath was well known for his role in Brokeback Mountain, and he stars in the upcoming The Dark Knight Batman movie as the Joker. Update: TMZ reports as follows:

He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime. The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams. He plays The Joker in the upcoming Batman film, "The Dark Knight."

Update: NY Times reports as follows:

At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger's bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near body."

Oh that is so tragic. I mean you expect this shit from Britney and Anna Nicole. But Heath? Seriously talented. Seriously unexpected. I can't believe how young he was. I had no idea he was so close to my age.

Yeah, it's pretty shocking to hear that such a young talented actor, just beginning to see his full potential, has died.

It's gotta be suicide. He had pills all around him. Unless it was murder and someone put pills all around his body, it's got to be suicide. I mean the timing of it, before he had an appointment with someone (he wanted to be found) and the fact that if he accidentally took too many and they killed him, he would've closed the bottle and put it away, he wouldn't be holding a bottle allowing pills to spill everywhere if he accidentally took too many.

Although that article that Laurel posted is the only one I've seen that says the pills were "all around him" - all the other articles I read said that pills were "near the body" or "in the apartment."

I've also heard speculation that he had pneumonia and that it was a possible reaction to the pills (some sort of bad interaction) but I don't know where that came from since I haven't seen any articles that say that.

I thought it stated in most articles that he had a massage appointment and that the masseuse was the one that found him.

Also, if the cardiac arrest was because of the pills he wouldn't still be holding them. The effects would take too long to cause his heart attack for him to still be holding the pills.

Most of the reports I've seen didn't say he was holding them. It said they were "near the body" or "in the room" or "on the nightstand".

All of them say something different.
