Well ...they got to their hotel room and found that someone was already in there. And that someone just happened to be Duncan. And as there weren't any other rooms available in the hotel he agreed to share with them!

Yeah. That's what happened. That maybe was there for a reason, but it seems to make it look like just a possibility. which it isn't. well, it is. a possibility of 1 or 100% or somethink.
